• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Not sure what our Spyders reach with the cat delete and I don't have a decibel meter handy, does anyone know?

And I would guess these readings would be different based on the style of baffle or no baffle installed.
 
In the United States, most states enforce a decibel limit of around 85 decibels for passenger vehicles when measured from a distance of 50 feet away. This limit is in place to prevent excessive noise pollution and to ensure that vehicles are operating within reasonable noise levels.
Motor vehicles must at all times be equipped with an adequate muffler or exhaust system in constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise. Muffler must not be equipped with a cutout, bypass, or similar device.

That said, Even with cat bypass, you are probably close to db levels spec. Aftermarket mufflers would be the questionable part. The Harley guys have no chance. And, if you wanted to lawyer up and fight, it specifically says the "muffler" must not be equipped with cutout, bypass, or similar device. Does not say "exhaust system". And you know this town has the means, so when in town, keep it down.
 
With stock muffler and cat delete (no plug style baffle) you will exceed 85 db at more than 1/2 throttle during acceleration. No problem in our province yet, there are tons of Harleys and big trucks that I can hear from my house which is almost 1/2 mile off the highway. Enforcement is more about being a cash cow than health benefits. IMO

There you go... Like a very famous person used to say often... 'Follow the Money'. Though the end result will be the same regardless of the motivation.

It's the abusers who bring the clamp of regulation down around the rest of us.
 
At least they are using a real sound monitor to measure, here in Winona MN it's up to the discretion of the police to decide what is too loud,
So you could be riding a Spider or a Goldwing with stock exhaust and if the barney fife is having a bad day you could get a ticket for loud exhaust

Then you go to court and plead your case! Up here in Maine, we ran into this very thing with snowmobiles in northern Maine! The kids would put their aftermarket cans on, and the game wardens were stopping them and giving them tickets for loud exhaust, they would just pay the fine, I told them go fight it, or this will not go away! There is a law for making too much noise, great, but without the equipment to measure it how do they know you have gone over the limit, not by ear! So, I am 200 miles back in the woods of Maine getting a ticket, when guys are setting car alarms off in the city with their motorcycles, and they get inspected every year, or should anyway! I don't have a problem with anyone that wants to BLOW their ear drums out as longs as they don't do it by my house and keep me up all night. :yikes: There is a cash cow out there and the system will try to get it!!!

Mikey, I used to watch a TV show called Northwoods Law.
The Maine Game Wardens on that show always said it was illegal to run anything but a stock exhaust on quads, snowmobiles, side by sides...
Don't know if it was true or not.
