• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Throttle body issue

2012 RT-S TB

My 2012 RT thru the P1614 code three times. I was not able to get it going only the first time. After reading here about how to restart after this issue I just let it run a few minutes then turn it off and it started and ran fine the second time. The dealer did two updates that came out after July 7th when the updates had last been done. I have 500+ miles and more start/stops than I can count and it has not failed again . Keeping my hopes up that this issue is behind me.

SC92.....you may have hit on the problem causing some TB's to go bad: "gummed up bushings". Couldn't this well have been caused by gas? Perhaps the various software changes BRP have made which affect the opening/closing of the throttle (plate?) were a result of this and hopefully have now fixed the issue.

Perhaps a dose of carb/injector cleaner in the gas tank every now and then would be useful. This is all a WAG on my part as I'm not much of a mechanic.

I like the way that you think...

Chevron Techron Fuel Systen Cleaner Buy 1 Get 1 Free

Bob, Advance auto has it on sale for the month of Nov. I think I'll pick up a couple for my vehicles to include the RT.
From my reading Techron is one of the better additives. I've used it a time or two but not with any consistancy.

SC92: I've had two TB's on my 2011....one shortly after I got it last June, and second one this spring. FWIW, I do my own oil changes beginning with the 600mi, and try to keep it half way on the stick. At Lemonts BBQ, BajaRon installed some new plugs and wires and that gave me the chance to check the air filter and at 20,000 mi it was still in exc cond, with no residue of oil in the air box or on the filter itself.

I agree with you in general about oil volume in the tank/motor. On two occasions after changing oil, being extra careful about the amount put in, doing a run to get it thoroughly circulated, arriving home to find it OVERFULL on the stick. I syphoned out enough to get it down to half way on the stick. Can't fig it out; oil drain is done on level floor, oil hot with engine recently run, etc, etc. After these two overfills, I now only put in 4 quarts at the change, go for a run, then come back and top off to half way on the stick. I check it frequently as it uses about 6 oz every 800-1000 miles.

throttle body

One thing to keep in mind is that these motors are fuel injected so the throttle body does not have gas pass through it just air so the gas theory gumming up bushings could not happen[oil in the airbox could be sucked through it ].A product like Star Tron would help though to keep the injectors clean.

Just Do Me Just Did Me

Thanks a lot Just Do Me, you shot my idea of adding Tectron to the gas to clean the throttle thingie all to heck! :D Oh well, maybe a little will keep the injectors clean with with this crappy gas we get now and its sitting for longer periods during the winter.

So which fuel stabilizer would you suggest for those of us who will just HAVE to put away the riding gear for a couple of months while the snowplows are out knocking down mailboxes??

Bob, theres several brands at the auto stores that work but Stabil is one of the better known that I've used for some years in my lawn tractors that sits for several months during the winter. If its only going to be two months, I wouldn't worry about it. I think I saw Stabil on sale at Advance the other day when I got the Tectron.
