• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

this is soooooo cool

Wow..!!

that was amazing..makes you wonder how folks come up with these ideas...didn't know aluminum would stay liquid that long...

I guess that it's an easy thing to do to Fire Ants; they don't exactly have the popular press on their side! :D
That was very interesting; I was amazed at how many tunnels they interconnected, within such a tight area.

Wow.

Ants are kind of special and kinda like humans too.
1. They live in cities. Ant cities are called colonies though.
2. They have division of labor and specialization. Army ants, scouts, gardeners, larvae tenders.
3. They engage in farming. The "food" we see them take into their nests is used as fodder to grow molds or fungus that they eat.
4. They bury their dead.
5. They have a hierarchy of social control, with the queen at the top. We do the same sort of thing...but we don't always have a queen.

Very interesting creatures.

Fire ants were accidently introduced into the US in the 30's . . . and are nasty little suckers. If you live where they are spreading, and have ever encountered them by mistake, you'd be cheering this guy and wondering where you could get 20 lbs of aluminum to melt!

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.” ~ Robert A. Heinlein

On specialization:
"It is the great multiplication of the productions of all the different arts, in consequence of the division of labour, which occasions, in a well-governed society, that universal opulence which extends itself to the lowest ranks of the people."~Adam Smith, The Wealth of Nations,Book I, Chapter I, p. 22, para. 10, 1776, University of Oxford Press.
