Thinking of replacing my Cee Bailey with CHAD

I have a Cee Bailey but still get alot of buffeting and wind on arms and head. Been reading posts on the CHAD & its seems that those who have it love it. Couple questions though:

Does it stop buffeting on the hands & arms?

Is it quiet? I wear a Nolan 2 helmet.

Where do you notice the greatest improvement?

Why do some of you cut it or round it off?

Appreciate any/all comments.

Toni , before anyone can honestly answer your questions they need to know how tall you are. For example , the new Givi shield got 2 or 3 great reviews and then someone over 6 foot tall tried it (me). The buffeting in the middle of the face was horrible, while my friend rode with his shield open at 60 mph (he is 5'9). Since then most people have said the same thing , great if you are under say 5'10.
The C.H.A.D is a great shield , how tall are you.

It would be great if you could ride someone's Spyder who has one. Barring that, just go by testimonials.

I have a CHAD. I've got it set low and tilted back. I love it! The Ultrasport windshield the Spyder had before I replaced it did nothing but funnel bugs and wind directly into my helmet visor. The CHAD is a huge improvement. I'm 5'4" by the way.

If I have one complaint it's that the CHAD cuts down on so much wind that I hardly have cooling effects in the mesh vents of my jacket. Still, I'd rather risk getting a bit warm than have my body beat up by the wind. I have no plans to experiment with anything else.

I'm about 5'6", I use a Nolan N2 helmet.

Tony, I'm 5'8" and the CHAD is fantastic - and I don't run it at the highest or the most forward position. It will work wonders for you! At 5' 6" if you have it all the way up you'll be in a nice quiet bubble - tilt it back a bit and lower it a bit and you can control how much air hits you.

The rounding of the corners was started by Lamonster after many months of people saying it looks like an uncut toenail.

I trimmed mine as I think it looks better. Didn't seem to affect the performance. The CHAD will also reduce the air on your hands.

I think you would be very happy with one.

OK, I'm like 5 feet an no inches. HDX is over 6 feet. CHAD works great for us. I keep it all the way down and tilted back - sure I get a nice breeze but nowhere near beat up by the wind with the stock shields. I can ride with no helmet if I want and my glasses will not blow off. But I get air, I get some wind.

When HDX rides it he can easily change the position of the shield and no more bugs in my face! :2thumbs:

Hey Toni. I'm 6'8" and have the chad. its not perfect for me, but I think its the best available so far for a guy my height. I am still tweeking the angle that will work the best for me. So far I still have plenty of helmet noise. If I bend down 6" its very quiet. Good luck!

I wonder if a Laminar Lip on the top of the Chad might help someone like you who is vertically gifted?

I observed SpyderDeb ride in gale force gusts today behind her CHAD windshield. When riding nearly direct into the wind at road speeds over 70 mph (against 30 - 50 mph gusts) her head was steady but I did notice sleeves rippling from the wind. She's 5'6". The shield was set in the lowest position with a slight forward rotation in the setting. Last night I did a test ride and used my hand to find the edge of the 'calm' which was above my head (I'm 5'10").

The crosswinds about wore us out: her from hanging on as the wind buffeted her body on a very stable Spyder platform and me from holding my bagger on the road.

But it was a good ryde - met and rode with different folks and made it back home safe and sound .... and tired.:2thumbs:

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm 6'6" and hoped that the Chad is the answer but hearing you have to bend down 6 inches to get clean air is disappointing. I have one of Marcel's sliders that has two extra inches added to the top and it's sure not the answer. The wind noise and buffeting is bad.:yikes: I'll keep looking.

We musta been on the same ride. Got my CHAD yesterday and headed to Des Moines. After experimenting, I had it all the way down and tilted back and it was great. Today heading home into 40 mph gusting headwinds I was getting pushed around a lot. Not my head, my whole body! The air off the CHAD was still as smooth as could be given the conditions. I tried raising it up but it was bouncing around so much even the console was shaking from the gusts. Out of frustration I tried the exteme opposite, all the way forward and down low. It helped a huge amount as the CHAD was now taking the brunt of the gusts and was riding solid. I was looking through the CHAD, but that's ok (I'm 5-7). I had a 250 mile worst case test home today and CHAD came out ok! The best part is having that adjustment.

Do ya'll leave CHAD set in one place once you find the sweet spot for you? Or do you change it for the wind conditions of the day?

You guys might want to check out Marcel's Evo II windscreen. I'm 6'4" and I used to run with that windshield. I had the cleanest air pocket and quietest ride with that windshield of any others. No head buffeting, the wind was flowing about 8 - 10" over my helmet but I did experience some back pressure with it. The back pressure wasn't bad and I got used to it. Marcel sized it for my height (I don't remember how tall it was initially, maybe 26" or 28") and I was looking through the top of the windshield while riding. That was okay until the first time I rode at night in the rain. The rain on the windshield wasn't beading off, making it difficult to see. I cut about 2" off the top, making the top of the Evo II about chin - nose level when I was sitting on the Spyder so I wouldn't have to look through the windshield anymore. I then reshaped the top lip according the instructions on his website and I was still able to get the wind to flow 4" - 6" over my helmet. The biggest downfall of that windscreen was that it was so big, it looked very bad on the Spyder. I had taken to installing it for extended (over 3 hours +/-) highway riding and carrying the stock BRP windshield to swap out as soon as I got to the destination. After numerous install and removal cycles, two of the mounting holes cracked and I got Marcel's tall Evo III slider screen. His tall slider was okay for me but not as good as the Evo II for providing a calm, quiet ride. With the slider, the wind was hitting the top 1/3 of my helmet creating a lot of wind noise.

She's only had it on for the 270 miles ridden yesterday. She made one adjustment during the ride as the initial setting slipped a bit. I'm going to look at the 4 sets of hardware for the adjustment points: it's OK but methinks it could be better. We have at least two 150 mile rides planned for the weekend, so we'll see how many times it gets adjusted.

Tonight was great - not much wind and 30 degrees cooler than yesterday!
