Thinking about trading for a new RT?

NADA

these bikes are in the nada look at the guide and see what they say it is worth also kbb.com

My dealer looked mine up and said that my 09 with 3000 miles and corbin farkles around 11000 I thought that was a ripoff

If this is all you can get keep it for tooling around town or to go to bike shows with
Use the new rt for traveling

It seems strange that you had to wait the best part of a year for a bike, when our dealers still have premier bikes around...

Guess that doesn't qualify us as early adaptors????

Everybody who wanted a Spyder in 2007 was in that same boat. dltang and I put our deposit down in August 2007 and didn't get our Spyders until March 2008.

That right there, just might be the best line I've read in years......

I can relate..........:doorag:

Yup that is why we never have money cuz we are always playing on our motorcycles. You and I will die broke but we will have had alot of fun doing it:2thumbs:

BRP AND DEALERS

i have a 2008 spyder with 3500miles on and my wife thought i was crazy
if i would give them 10k and my spyder for a base RT. after reading these posts she would have commited. thank goodness for the AFTERMARKET, or we would really be getting screwed. my dealer in alb, new mexico wants to charge me $25 for an oil filter, i can only imagine what he will
soak me on a trade. i am going to keep my spyder and my honda vtx. and when i have the money i will put a big down payment on a 2010 camaro.
they are going for about $25000.
sell your spyder yourself, and lets dont be crazy like i was with my and bought right away. let them eat themem for a while, and we all may get a better deal.

I agree with you completely. Any money spent on a recreational vehicle, including motorcycles, is "prepaid consumption", and not an investment in a physical asset. You are buying an intangible asset which is a desired life style. The recovery of your money comes in the joy of riding your motorcycle.

The least cost solution for a Spyder would be to ride it for at least 100,000 miles and then sell it on the internet for whatever it will bring. I have had great luck selling high mileage motorcycles on eBay.

Trade-in values are not a problem for me. I love motorcycles more than I love money. I love riding even more.
:agree:

I can get a filter for about $13 and change. An SE5 trans filter for $8 and change. When will dealers stop screwing their customers?

I am looking at it from the dealers point of view. If I was a dealer(I'm not) would it make sense for me to put 12000 dollars out of my bank account to take a trade in? Or would it be better to spend 12000 for a new one (my estimate of dealer cost) which BRP probably floorplans for free for a few months? In the latter case I have a new machine with warranty to sell and no money out of pocket. Plus it's easier to finance a new one, and these days nobody has 12k cash.

maybe it is the mountain air?

Bazman, being your "neighbor" in the South Valley, I know just the dealer you are talking about.

On my last (so help me God) service there, while I was waiting for my oil to be changed, they came out to the sales floor, took 5 quarts of oil off the shelf, checked out at the parts department, and charged me 75 cents/quart more on my bill than the shelf price - which was more expensive then the other dealership in town. This is just one little thing among many, I have been there 3 times with the Spyder and the visits are just filled with this kind of practice. They got 3 chances, they are out.

Dudley, I wish I knew why some dealers do this. I have finally gotten to; "When you are standing at the corner of Greed and Incompetence, it is Easy." It seems such a waste to me.

Tom

My SM5 takes 4 quarts, not 5. There is a service bulletin from July, 2008 wherein BRP specifies 4.1 quarts for the SM5 and 4.2 quarts for the SE5. I would think that not all of the oil drains out in an oil change, which may account for the fact that 4 quarts puts me right at the full mark on the dip stick. I test this by checking the oil when I arrive home after an oil change, using the prescribed method. I get my oil changed at a Harley aftermarket shop. I tell them the Spyder needs 4 quarts - no more - no less. My Spyder dealer repeatedly tried to charge me for 5 quarts, which ultimately contributed to my decision not to have my oil changed there. I won't bore you with that story.

Nice to hear

At age 67, looking back...there are only two vehicles in my life that gave me a thrill, just fingering the keys. One was my '87 Corvette. The other is my '09 SE5...which I'll be paying on until I'm 72...

I Refuse To Enter Old Age By Default!:ohyea:
Nice to hear NewRider. Keep on truck'in.
Tell you what. I hardly ever play the lottery but if I do and I win, I'll pay off your machine. Heck, I'll buy you a new one. How about that?

I heard that

The RV market is is the toilet & will probably stay there for a while, so the dealers feel they are competing with the used market.

Having both managed and taught marketing for a long time (longer that I want to think about), I don't see any real effort to leverage the opportunity the new RS brings. IE: take a '08 or '09 SE, add the windshield, comfort seat, & bags & put it on the floor next to a $26K RT, priced at $16K (+/-), & I'll bet the old inventory will disappear. That does mean the majority of the GSs will sit for a while, but ultimately everyone would win.

Wow Dragonrider, now that's an idea ! Not sayin' you would want it but BRP or one of their dealerships should hire you. IMHO. Jerry
