Common sense is your best bet, as others have stated good insurance & being aware of your surroundings when parking are always good ideas. One good deterrant I didn't see posted yet, is when your parking your Spyder for any good length of time, we always use our travel cover. It covers the front, dash cluster, handlebars, seat and rear trunk areas, so no-one can mess with anything important, without being obvious about it and actually taking the cover off. It only takes about 2 mins to put on or take off and stores nicely inside its own built in stuff-sack which easily fits in any of the RTs storage compartments.

But as stated, its more to keep honest ppl honest and not really going to stop someone if they really want to steal your Spyder. But you'd be surprised how many curious on-lookers may actually take a seat and or a pic with them actually sitting ON YOUR SPYDER if they see one sitting unattended. I actually watched one time, from a doctors office window, as a man had his 8-10 year old daughter pose for a pic sitting on Teddy's Spyder and by the time I got out there, ther were gone and left a big tear in the front of the seat, along with her shoe print :yikes: Needless to say, I learned the hard way about using our travel cover :shocked:

If you wish to install an alarm many are available for not much money and are easy to install. I use and recommend this one:

It has everything the Gorilla alarm has but also includes a proximity sensor to ensure no one sits on or even gets near your Spyder. If you need more details just let me know.

The Spyder is probably OK....I carry a lock...that came with one of the guns, it about 8 to 10 inches long, to lock my helmet when in places I feel warrant the need to lock it.....at night at hotels....put a cover on it....

We live on a small ranch, insurance is good, and we have them, my wife's RT and my STS, parked in a carport, the thief would have to get over the gate, meet our dogs, and the alpacas who think they are guard dogs, and next to the carport is my marked sheriffs unit, I think they would get the hint, hahaha!!!!:f_spider:

Back in 1980 some fool came onto my carport and stole my motorcycle from behind my marked Sheriff's car, we still have not found that bike. :gaah:

I just installed a scorpion alarm, more for the proximity sensor then anything else! Keeps people from actually taking it upon themselves to sit on it or jump on it! Just ask Dave and Teddy!:yikes:

Don't leave unlocked what you don't want to loose.

I lock the storage and take the key with me. I know some guys have the in plain view key. I have to admit, they look awesome. I don't know if I am there yet. I love people, but over 23 years in law enforcement and still going has left me a bit jaded. :shemademe_smilie:

With all the electronics on the Spyder i don't see why BRP couldn't 86 the key and use a FOB like my Tri-Glide has. I just keep the FOB in my pocket walk away and and the trike can't be started till i get back within 15 feet of it.:dontknow:

I admit I'm surprised BRP hasn't introduced keyless ignition for the Spyders. Why not? You're already given a proximity key, what's a few feet more?

As for theft... You can't start a Spyder with out the key, you can't lift the Spyder into the back of a pickup or a panel van, you can't service the Spyder outside of an official dealer, and you can't part out the Spyder in what is a still-insignificant aftermarket.

Anyone who steals a Spyder instead of any one of hundreds of more profitable bikes to steal is a truly stupid criminal.

Good insurance, take your key with you, enjoy your day.

With my GS I,m going to put an Arms room chain through the rear wheel and cover it- (No steering lock with the Billet riser block?)

that is the hardest part. I come from a third world country where they steal you door bell and porch light. I find it hard to leave such an expensive item "just out there". Have done it now for some time with the steering lock park brake and in gear (SM model). Try to keep it in sight. So relax if you can or shop around for the many locking items out there. Many of which can and will work against you if you forget...!! hyea:

YOU KNOW how STUPID crooks are!!! Your place would be a challenge!!!! I would love to have a video of some A$$ hole idiot trying to steal ANYTHING from your palce!!! Would make a GREAT movie!!!
