• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

The wing and carbon fiber are on

Thanks,
There are tons of wings around but most are too wide 45" plus and are designed for a wide mount

This is why I went with the sprint car nose wing they are also designed to make downforce at lower speeds

Having seen wind tunnel smoke test on motorcycles I can't see how there will be any benefit to having a wing on the Spyder. If you like it that's all that matters. :doorag:

The hell with the wing, just get the car! It will blow away anything you put on the track next to it.:D

You know, I was thinking that! That is one bad-@ss ride. But we are Spyder people. There be Spyders here! :D

So Alton, how is the new wing coming? Have you received parts and stuff yet? I am still interested in your journey!

 Looks good powder coated . But once again put it back on the sprint car . The concept is good and if you where to take it to the track I.m sure it would improve your quarter mile or your oval time but to drive around on the highway, how fast do you need to go ?

But then again if we didn't mod our bikes they would all be the same except the colors. Thanks for the time ,effort and pics. Keep modding Bro !

Ok so the wing is on,
I'm happy with the airfoil and the mount. It's not stiff enough but my son in law works at a high tech composite shop so soon it will be cast in carbon fiber.
From my calculations by monitoring speed and rear shock deflection I'm getting about forty-five pounds of downforce at eighty miles per hour.

That's about average max entry speed under max braking for me.

It doesn't sound like much but the center of pressure is pretty far back adding some mechanical advantage without raising the center of gravity

With the brake bias set to babe on board mode gives you more rear bias but the fronts still stutter first.

So what's next

I'm home for the summer on a much needed sabbatical and my parents have a full sheet metal shop.

I thinking the undertray is next
I'll order the carbon fiber bumper and will have a structural place to mount the tray.

The problem with putting an airfoil underneath is clearance

I'm toying with the idea of scrubbing rubber curtains McClaren style

Self inflating with steel drag strips
If I make them retract when deflated I can put a pressure relief valve on them and make them cockpit controllable.

You sir are truly a mad scientist, but I like it! :2thumbs:

Of course some updated pictures will be required once you have something permanent to show us.

:dontknow::dontknow::dontknow:

I have to agree with some of the others. You have done a great job already with the tire/wheel package and of course, the motor. But the Spyder has a unique stance and attitude, and was created with appropriate proportions and flowing angles and curves. Sure we add a few cosmetics, but with the exception of the front fenders/wheel combo, BRP got it right I think. You have obviously taken care of the fender problem!

If you look at custom cars and other quality vehicles, every build starts with a great stance.
I think the wing takes away from that in it's current form. The wing seems out of proportion and would probably not provide enough benefit to justify/offset the oversize look, IMHO. Even if the wing were to add significant downforce is it "fixing" a problem?? Haven't noticed any loss of high speed traction in the rear myself, and if I wanted to add downforce I would be looking at the front.

The wing definitely takes away from the look of your bike. The other mods? Cool. The wing? Not so much.

Maybe not, it was done shortly after the Spyder hit the streets. This I loaded this pic 02-12-2009 07:42 PM :doorag:

I think these wings should be left for the tuner crowd not the spyder crowd. If you really really want a wing, it should almost be a molded piece that blends into the tail piece of the back bodywork.

Aesthetics aren't what it was about but I like the way it looks and I'm the only one that counts :)

I did it for handling and it helps there.

And I'm not really interested in being labeled as part of a " crowd" I'm just fine standing here in the corner alone
