• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

The touring windshield is useless

While I love my Bike so so much, I can honestly say that the touring windshield is a complete waste of money.

The stock windshield let the air hit my chest, but now the new one sends the air directly under my chin and into my face.
I could see if I was under 5'5", how this taller shield might be of some help, but Im 6'5" and I can't wait to take it off my bike.

I ordered one for mine when i ordered the bike. it was damaged so they put the short one on. picked up the tour model but i dont think i'm gonna install it. it rides fine with the short one.

Hey, thanks for the heads-up! I have a Spyder SE5 on order, and I was going to add a touring windshield to the order, but not after reading your post. Thats why I love this site so much.....I find out stuff BEFORE wasing time and/or money!

what's good for someone is bad for the otherone, imho you have to xp this yourself.
Height, speed and other things are important. 4 screws: try to testdrive it from a friend or
a good dealer.

Hit's me in the same place but I'm only 5'11". I still like the shield for looks if nothing else but I think I'm going to try a couple of things and I'll let you know how it works.

try to heat it up and bend in the same shape at the top like the original one, I think this will be much better since the flip on the original does a great job!

Yea Wijllie, I might try that...what could it hurt?
It I ruin it, I can always just put the stock one back on.

And you are right too Lamonster...I do like the look of it.
It's just not functional at all as far as a wind screen.

8) I don't know if this will help or not, but here is some food for thought. I don't have a spider but the wife and I will be ordering an SE5 this spring. What we do have is plenty of northern winters riding sleds with medium height windshields in subzero temps. If you can find a windshield that is sloped like stock and has the small (1" to 1 1/2") vertical lip, that is the ticket. From experience you can't believe the difference that little lip makes. God its going to be a long summer!!!

:spyder:...wadda mean short people ain't got no...
....well --no difference in driving with the touring windshield vs stock. I am about 5"3" female and I can't feel much wind difference, but I think I am getting less bugs on my face shield. The "really buggy" season is just beginning, so we will see. I liked the one guys advice on adding a deflector shield. I know that BRP is working on the problem/complaint, and I would like to see what their option will be.

Did it work? I see you posted pics on BRP site of it.

Ok, thanks for the help guys..here is what i came up with to "fix" my touring windshield.

I heated up to top and made my own lip. Unfortunately by doing that, the plastic bubbles on the inside and it looks pretty awful. So, I painted it black, so that it matches the rest of the pod.
Then, I mounted it right on top of the stock windshield, which helps even more because the stock windshields lip pushes it out even a little bit more.
I had to buy some longer bolts, locking washers and rubber washers to put between the two windshields....but I think the end result turned out pretty damn good for something I did in my garage.

Looks nice! Could it be you heated the flip to fast so it bubbeled?
And most important; does the flip and the touring windshield a great job now?

I might have heated it too much, but in order for me to bend it evenly, I had to heat the entire top at the same time.

And I just finished riding it just now....it makes a pretty big difference

IMHO the touring screen just misses the flip. The original shield works great with it so I wonder why they didn't put it on the touring one...

Will the outside chip from stones?

I painted it black and then clear-coated it...so Im hoping that any chipping will be minimal.

And as far as seeing through the windshield.....does anybody actually look through it?
Im 6'5"...I would have to bend over so that my head was on the handle bars to be able to look through the windshield, so I don't think its going to be a problem.

Hmm I am 5'4" and ordered the Touring Windscreen. I wonder if it really matters that much then. I don't want to look "through" the windshield. Do you look over it or through it (at 5'3" we should be pretty close)
