The Rack is Finished

Hi folks,

I've been working on this off/on for some time now. She is finished except for the test drive; which I will do in a day or so.

She does seem strong enough; even if BRP says only put 15 lbs max on the Sport Rack.

She is not pretty but, hopefully, she will work.

If I show up at SITR with the suitcase held on with duct tape, you will know what happened. :yikes:

PS) I bought 1/2" square tubing for the frame & some 1/8" diameter rod for the hooks to grab on to.

I didn't notice until I had put the suitcase away and was uploading the photos.

looks great. How much weight are you testing..?? Have mine attached to the backrest but don't carry suitcases...:roflblack:

carry enough for me and the wife for weekend trips..will have to weigh it next time.....:thumbup: very nice job...

1 comment: did you consider making the vertical piece a hinged piece, so its up when you need it, but down when you don't need it?

I'm going to modify my rack so I can mount a larger top case but was going to do it a bit differently. I'll post mine when I finally get it done.

No I did not. I bought a 2nd Sport Rack cover & the luggage rack is bolted to that to stay there somewhat permanently. I only need to remove the 2nd luggage rack/Sport Rack cover and put my original Sport Rack cover back in place.

I did re-inforce the 2nd Sport Rack cover with some 1/8" thick plates on the underside. These plates go from each front/back bolts to ( hopefully ) keep the 2nd Sport Rack cover from tearing out. What is that old saying about 'The best laid plans of mice & men.'

Chupaca: I would guess about 30 lbs or so when ready to travel. I might weigh the suitcase in a day or so. Since it is only for me, it will not be anywhere as heavy as with two people travelling.
