My wife was out with her Spyder at a softball game - watching both the game and the Spyder. She actually had someone come up to the Spyder and begin rocking it by the handlebars - checking the suspension I guess. I think my wife has finally come down, but was completely unglued at the nerve of someone to actually think it was OK to touch someone else's ride. The guy had his own bike and you would think that he would know - don't touch someone else's ride unless invited.

She has had on several occassions co-workers mentioning they sat on her Spyder as well as I have.

I think the camel's back is broke and will be installing alarms to keep the idiots away - honestly - would you hop on anyone's two wheeler or traditional trike?

I have found that people are much more willing to approach, touch and ask to sit on the Spyder since it is so much less intimidating than the traditional cycle on its sidestand. The very tought of trying to lift a bike off its stand and balance it scares most onlookers off. The Spyder almost invites people to sit on it. My mother (81) would never even get close to my cruiser since it scared her. When I drove up on the Spyder, she climed on it like it was sofa.

That doesn't excuse inappropriate behavior like you described.

Two words - TALON ALARM!!!!

It chirps when you get near, when you rock it, or if you start it without disabling the alarm. All the settings are configurable.

I did have a bad experience the other day though. I was at Captain Sunday's (ice cream) and a man and woman approached the bike with two dripping ice cream cones. The bike chirped and flashed at them warning them not to get too close. They totally ignored it! They leaned and craned all over my Spyder anyway! I finally had to manually trigger the 120db alarm with my remote to get them to back off. I wished I had James Bond-style tire spikes. :edit:

I've had a similar incident. I parked in front of the barber shop when I went for a haircut. A commercial van parked nearby and two guys got out to look at my :spyder:. No big deal... until one of them swings his leg over and bounces in the seat!

I got up from the barber's chair, gown and all, walked outside and asked if I could sit in HIS ride and maybe, well, disengage his brake and let it roll through town. WTF?

He got the message. "Gee, I didn't think about that."

Unfortunately, the :spyder: also attracts people from the lower 5% of the bell curve. {sigh}

Yes but it also attracts people from the higher end of the curve too ! ;D Has anyone tried a Dorothy from OZ handle bar dog basket with a nice snarly pitbull sitting in it? There are alot of ignorant people out there. I agree don't touch what does not belong to you!

I had a few people mess with my Spyder when I was at Americade. I tried to be nice about it seeing they might have thought it was part of Bushtec display. One guy jumped on and I asked him if I could help him and he said he was checking out my highway pegs. I told him that's fine but that was my personal Spyder. He said well I'm a dealer, not oh I'm sorry or hey nice mods. He felt like because he was a dealer could be excused from having good manners. I later told him jokingly that I was about to slap him off of my Spyder seeing he didn't ask first.

I don't mind people checking out my bikes or my Spyder but I would never ever just hop on someone else's ride without asking the owner first. That could get you knocked out real quick.

The only problem with that solution is that there is not enough stroke on that air cylinder nor does it inflate fast enough to "unseat" the curious. ;D

I've only had it happen to me twice while i was in the immediate area, but i have noticed some light "shoe marks" on the seat when i come out of stores and once it was in gear, :edit: unknowers. I really have issue with the rude people that do these things, i guess we can chalk it up to ignorance. Everybody that has ridden for any time knows you don't just climb up on someone elses ride. I'm more than happy enough to let someone sit that asks first, maybe i'm just "old-fashioned". :doorag:

Last year I saw a pretty bad fight over this very subject.. While at bike week in MB a guy sat on another guys M109 and the guy who owned the bike was nicer than me and asked him to get off nicely but the other guy wanted to be a jerk and the M109 owner beat him pretty bad.

It was kinda funny because the owner was maybe 5'10'' 200lbs and the other guy was 6'3 280but he was no match by a long shot.. They broke up the fight but I bet he will never sit on someone's bike again.. The ironic part was he owned a bike and should have know better.. OH WELL he got what he deserved in MHO...
