• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

The manual says...

...that the first oil and filter change needs to be at 3000 miles, 2016 F3S. I've been reading around here were the oil change interval was now 6000 miles. Better safe than sorry so it gets changed now, but does anyone know the correct interval?

i would agree with :

i would agree with the manual , if it says 3000 first oil change , might wise too stick with that ... { incase there is something in the oil , or at the oil plug that would reveal a problem } and you would really need too if it is under warranty ! { might negate the value of your warranty other wise I would guess }

Confused....

The 1330 engine in the 2014 and newer RT's and all F3 have the first oil change at 3,000 miles with the first service. All the V-twin 998 engines had it at 600 miles. Some one may have tacked on a zero and figured all spyders are the same but there has been no change to that....Do it at 3,000 or close to that figure for the first then it's up to you if you go for the 9,300 miles or a year...to the next...

The oil change interval is what you need to do AFTER you've had the first oil change done.

The first oil change is basically just to make sure you aren't running too much assembly lube instead of properly rated oil, & that all the debris left from manufacturing the engine, metal filings etc, is all cleaned out & picked up in the filter - some engines/manufacturers even use a 'special oil' for that first run period. And from there you move into the standard 'Servicing Schedule', which is where the longer service periods come in. :thumbup:

Yep, used to be less on the 998 twin, but 3000 mi for the first change

I had the dealer do the first change at 2600 miles because I was leaving for the SpyderFest in Springfield last year. It also got logged on the dealers BUDS record for first service and they checked and updated codes and shift points at that time on my 1330 SE6 Rt (same engine as the F-3). Since then I have done my own oil changes every 6-9000 miles although the official recommended interval in the manual is 9300 miles (or 15000 Km for the Canadians). Great platform, and the maintenance intervals are wonderful.
Like Bob said, change once a year as per the manual, or every 9000 miles or so if you roll on more miles in a year :yes::yes::yes:
