• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

The Glove-box foam insert

What is the foam insert in the glove-box used for? There is more room to store items with the foam insert removed. Is the foam inert required to keep the box water tight?

It's to help keep the heat out. You can remove it but it will keep anything in there pretty warm nojoke

The earliest RTs didn't have the foam insert, nor the additional foam beneath and around the glovebox (inside the panels). The first day got my 2011, I took out the insert and it has never been replaced. It does create more room in the glovebox. Whether or not that's a problem, depends on what you carry in the glovebox.

I know of a couple of phones and cameras that didn't fair well from the heat.

:agree: But it has never harmed my Rx sunglasses, earplugs, gas slips, pad and pencil, anti-fog, and mosquito repellant in the least. Old touring rider's tip...the cell phone always goes in your pocket. If you crash and come off, you can still reach it to phone for help. It may not be as applicable to Spyder's, but it has stuck hard with me.

I took mine out for the extra room. So far (fingers crossed) I haven't had any problems with my Bluetooth Dongles, or "tangible" items.

I did have some lip balm melt one time, but it didn't make a mess and that was on a triple digit heat day! :yikes:

I've been considering taking mine out... Since I'm in Vegas, the heat would probably get pretty bad in the summer. Then again, you'd be a fool to leave anything that can melt anywhere without temperature control here in the summer, so it may not actually make much difference.

I've left mine in for vibration attenuation as well as heat insulation. It just seems that sitting right over that chunk of engine could be a rough environment if it's unshielded...

But that's just me! :opps:

Without it, the box works quite well in keeping my Hot Cocoa ..:roflblack:

And if you believe that I have another story.
I was thinking
