This picture is of me (MDR), Spyder #1287, my
sister and nephew. You may notice the my nephew (Jared)
has a bald head as he is courageously battling hodgkins
lymphoma (cancer). My bald head is all natural! Jared has
been wanting to go for a ride since I bought the Spyder,
but has been in the hospital getting chemo. When I
stopped by his place this week, he was really on edge as a
result of just finishing a chemo treatment the day before,
and being jacked up on 15 prednisone pills (steroids).
Steroids do not do well in a 14 year old body. However,
after I took him for a great ride on a perfect So. Cal day
he was all smiles for the rest of the day. How can you
beat that?

Re: Thanks, Marc (MDR)-Spyder brings a smile!

:bigthumbsup:Marc thats looks like pretty awesome threesome. I think Jared should get 1 to 2 rides a week on your spyder as part of his treatment. Well done my freind.

I'm not surprised to hear that the Spyder has therapeutic value. Well done, Marc. Please extend my best wishes for a successful recovery for Jared.

Check out my sig line. Spyders are welcome at the Motorcycle Ride for DAD, a fundraiser for prostate cancer research and education. In fact, I will be riding a demo model in the London ride this year, and BRP may be in attendance with at least one more - that hasn't been firmed up yet, though. Click on the link to find the ride nearest you!
Cheers,
Bruce

Thanks for the support everyone. Jared has one more round of chemo, ten days of radiation, and then hopefully we will be done with cancer. This journey really makes you appreciate the little things in life. Time to go for a
ride . . . Marc (MDR)

Re: Thanks, Marc (MDR)-Spyder brings a smile!

Jared,
I had a year of chemotherapy and 2 major surgeries for stage IVb Hodgkin's Lymphoma -- nearly 25 years ago. Grab every opportunity to enjoy yourself, laugh every chance you get, and try and have some fun each and every day. Hang in there, Jared!! You are the man!!!!

Hey Marc, how is Jared doing? For some reason I thought of him today while I was scrolling through new posts and remembered your message about him from March.

Best regards,

Bruce

Re: Thanks, Marc (MDR)-Spyder brings a smile!

It was good timing to ask about Jared today, Bruce. We've had a really positive two weeks. After he finished chemo, my sister and I took him to the Springsteen show here in So. Cal to celebrate. Springsteen's security pulled us out of line and then gave us tickets to be in the second row. Springsteen and many of the band members noticed Jared during the concert, and when the show was over a member of the crew came up to us and gave Jared Springsteen's set list from the performance (a list of all the songs). This act of kindness really made his night. Cancer sucks, but it's cool when people go out of their way to make a difference. Yesterday we got the results from the petscans and learned that Jared is in complete remission--no signs of cancer! He still has 20 days of radiation, but this great news has really lifted our spirits. Thanks to everyone for your support and prayers.

Re: Thanks, Marc (MDR)-Spyder brings a smile!

:bigthumbsup:on the remission , hopefully in a short while Jared will have his strength back and his hair will also come back and he can get on with being a happy teenager. Good luck to you and your family and God Bless you all.

Wow! That is too cool. I am a Springsteen fan from way back. We saw him in Hamilton, Ontario on March 3. I am not surprised to hear he and his guys treated Jared kindly. They are a class act through and through.

I am really happy to hear about Jared's progress. I have three sons, and it touches my heart when I see young people like Jared battling cancer. God bless.

Kindest regards,

Bruce

Hey MDR, I noticed you said you did the ride in SoCal. What area? I'm in Orange County and thinking it would be fun to get a local ride, of some Spyder owners, together. Jared could ride with you and enjoy a Spyder ride with others.

Immersed in a sea of Spyders!

That would be great. I'm in Lakewood (just north of Long Beach). Send me a pm if you want to go for a ride sometime. I still haven't run into any So. Cal riders . . .
