• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. TEST - JUST WENT TO WINDOWS 10

Running Windows 7 here. Have the free offer to download 10--but not quite liking what I am hearing about it. Going to hang tight on my 7 for now.

I actually have no valid opinion about "10"...
I've just had two systems with "7", and really like the way that it works!

Me too!
Winders ate was a disaster and there are so many bricked winders 7's out there now and as many unhappy geeks floundering. One tech I know has seven frisbees to fix on BSOD. I think I'll just stay with 7 of 9 at the moment and get a perfect 10 new when all the bugs are ironed out. Or I could just get some fruit like malus domestica from the tree in my yard :)

I'm still running "7" here, and plan to do so, until they pry it from my cold, dead hands...

Excellent choice. I've got Win 10, and everything seems to be, remarkably, SLOWER, not faster. I've also bought a machine that was presumably built for Win 10, so there's no hardware excuse.
STAY AWAY FROM PHOTOS. Opening up photos with the new WIN 10 photo application is brutally slow. Select the older "Windows Photo Manager", otherwise it could take a minute to open up a photo. Really.
And I believe there is already a lawsuit pending that WIN 10 does something to Firefox and Chrome that deliberately slows them down to force you to use the new Edge browser.
I do a lot of streaming, and I find that HULU and TCM no longer work well if I view them through Firefox or Chrome, but Edge works well.
I hate what MSFT did to Word and Excel. It's great that they made the programs faster, smaller and more secure, but they DID NOT have to mess with the interface.
They could have easily left the command structure the same and made all the improvements "under the hood".
I could go on.
Windows 10 is like a version of Windows 8 that is more easily used. But they didn't have to change all the controls, just the software.

OK.............I'm done.

I'm not a computer expert but I know people who are. They say in order to do the change over currently you really need to do a clean install by wiping out your previous operating system and then clean installing 10. That's beyond my ability so I'll hold off.

I've removed all of the W10 nag screens. If you do install it but want to revert back to 7 then
it's very likely you'll need to dig out your W7 disc and do a clean install.
Now's the time to backup all of the stuff that you consider valuable on your machine.
There are reports coming in of W10 being able to automatically install itself on machines
at M$'s behest....Oh! As to being free....the initial install is free but it seems likely that once
10 has achieved a foothold then it will inevitably become a subscription based system and
if you don't update you'll get "switched off"!
I'll duck and dive as long as I'm able but I think within a few years I'll be playing with Ubuntu.

I did the free "10" download a couple months ago. I haven't seen any benifit to it. Keep in mind that there is a time frame in which it will allow you to go back to your previous version.....Unfortunately, I went past it. I wish I would have known it, I would have gone back to "7"

Somebody Has to Like It

Like me .... I like Windows 10. I have it installed on three machines -- my work machine (an HP ProBook, 1 year old) my personal laptop (a Lenovo Edge, 3 years old), and a Lenovo Desktop (probably pushing 8 years). It "flies" on all three machines and performance on the Desktop is the best it has been since new. No, I did not do "clean" install -- just backed up everything I cared about ahead of time (something I do anyway) and let the Win7 to Win10 upgrade run it's course. At home, the two installs each took an overnight download over fixed point wireless -- the office machine about 90 minutes on a 100 Mb Ethernet connection. A few hiccups, but nothing that caused me to think about moving back to seven.

Guess that is me just being "different" .... Ann

I download it for free on my lap top and now I need to learn how to use it:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:. My desktop still using xp and no problem. Oh wellllllllllll.
