• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Test drive

I took a demo ride when they were first giving them out in the fall of 07. I had to fill out some paperwork and show my license, but no mention of insurance.

I hope there is another dealer near you. Or you can come to WA and ride ours.;)

There is another dealer around here, actually there are a few. But they are about an hour or so away...

I will get on one, sooner then later. :roflblack:

My dealer, and my BMW dealer, both carry their own insurance. You have to sign a waiver that says you will pay their deductable. Some dealers even make you provide a credit card with a limit high enough to pay the deductable, but I have never heard of any dealer requiring you to have your own insurance. Every state has different rules, but in Michigan the owner of record carries the insurance.

My dealer asked me to fill out some paper work and I had to show my drivers license. I made it clear that I didn't have a motorcycle endorsement but I would ride it around their parking lot if it was a problem. The dealer said you can take it down the road if you want. I came back and purchased ole blue. The only problem was/is the demo had a hindle and now all I can think is that blue needs a little growl.

Looks like it would be tough to sell to the thirty and forty somethings that never owned a motorcycle that BRP was originally targeting without a demo ride.

I did get the feeling that my dealer would not have let me demo at all if he didn't have either a used or demo spyder.

***Warning***
If you think you got it bad now...it will only get worse after the demo.

All the dealers up here in Maine & New Hampshire require is an endorsed liscence, shoes or sneakers (no flip flops) and a helmet. Both states are non helmet. You slao have to sign the waiver. Too bad that dealer didn't want to sell her a Spyder. My dealer even had me talk to a potential customer and even left us alone. He made a sale that day. I have to drive just over an an hour and a half to get there but I think it's worth it.

I even asked if I could take it for a spin in their tiny parking lot and if they had anywhere behind the building, and he said no.

I told my hubs and he said that we wont be going back there. Not even to get me a new helmet for my birthday this tuesday... hahaha

Happy Birthday! From the sounds of it you will most likely be better off driving over an hour to another dealer. It could be worse, I have to ryde over 2 hours to get to a dealer I may be able to trust. ;)

OR.....
You could be bold enough to just buy one without the test drive - I did and have no regrets! :2thumbs:

Happy BD :congrats: Steve

Thanks for the Happy Birthdays, this is my last weekend of being in my twenties... hahahaha

We drive an hour to get to our dealer in Hanover, PA even though we have one a bit closer. Got a better feel from the Hanover shop.

That being said...our first test ride was in the parking lot of this dealer. We had to have a motorcycle endorsement and had to sign the usual BRP waiver saying we know it's not a motorcycle, blah blah blah.

We took a real test ryde at a BRP event at a dealer about 2.5 hours away.
Same scenario - sign the waiver, needed a bike endorsement - and of course, closed toe shoes & a helmet.

I'm very surprised they expect you to have motorcycle insurance before you even purchase. I mean...who the hell does that? Insurance companies need a VIN in order to write the policy.

Find another dealer...apparently it's not uncommon to have to ryde an hour to get to one.

Happy Birthday & good luck in your quest for a Spyder. I love mine!

I was so fired up, I put down a deposit without a test drive, but did test drive one before it was delivered.
