• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Temprature Question

OK, now that I have had the Spyder for a week and put 250 miles behind it, it's time for a (probably stupid) question. On the display, the ambient temprature is reading higher than is should. The other day it was 78 deg outside, and the display was reading 100-105. Is this common, and is there any coorelation with the engine temp (if the ambient is higher than it should be, is the engine temp also showing higher than it should)?

Thanks,

This is a pretty common observation; that sensor is placed up under the "Tupperware", so it's never really going to be the best gauge for what you're feeling out on the road...

I agree with Bob; however your difference seems to be quite a bit.

Mine is around 10 degrees or less difference depending on the outside temp.

Seems the sensor could have been put elsewhere for a better reading.

If you stop for a while after a ride on a cool day, or the sun is shining on the tupperware for a while the error in temp can be substantial. It should level out once underway. Mine however reads 6 degres high as compared to another thermometer after a prolonged stay in the garage.

For me, the temperature is always a couple degrees higher than what I see posted.

The issue with the sun is right on--leave it parked in the sun and I find it reads 10-15 degrees higher.

Twenty degrees off--might be an error problem though. I have not run into that on any of my four :spyder2:,s.

Don't they have that sensor hidden where it is so that it can give temperature readings to the computer? Whatever reading WE see is just probably not a high priority number to the engineers.
Ah well; If you're too hot; take something off, or stop for ice cream. Too cold? Put something on or stop for coffee!

If you ride a while, park a few minutes, and then start the Spyder again, the temp can read 20-30 degrees higher than actual, due to heat trapped in the body. Parking in the hot sun, or over hot pavemnet, can do the same thing. The temp will eventually come down, if you are moving, but will always read a few degrees higher than actual.

Thanks for the quick responses! I will have them check it when I bring it in for the 600 mile check. I can understand it being of by a few degrees, but it has been off by over 20 degrees even after riding 40 miles.

You can check it for accuracy when first starting the Spyder for the day. If it is within a couple of degrees of the temperature in the garage, it is doing OK. If that is the case, they may not have installed it properly when your Spyder was prepped. Some have been left zip-tied to the frame. Be sure to report it to your dealer. 20 degree off after 40 miles is way more than normal.

My gauge is very accurate...only off 10 to 15 degrees...In south Texas, if snow is on the ground, it is cold, if not, it is hot.....

Yeppers. That's the easiest way to figure it out. If it's cold, I dress up, if it's hot, I dress down. If it's accurately 45 degrees, then the reading of 50 won't matter much. We need to worry less about what is not important and RIDE!
