• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I'll be leaving on a road trip with a small group leaving from Detroit area to Bryce Canyon Utah. Somewhere in Utah I'll be leaving the group to ride to Seattle to visit my son and his family. For the trip home, I would like to ride Route 2 all the way to the bridge in upper Michigan. I have looked on Google maps and it looks like I should be able to find gas about every 100-150 miles. Have any of you been on any or all of Route 2 and how was the gas situation. I really don't like the idea of putting a gas can in the frunk but I guess it's better than running out of gas.

I took 2 to Montana , was a great ride. I always stopped for gas , when it reached half a tank . If you happen to be riding late in evening , stations close by 10PM ! A little tip , if you ride later than 10 , you can find gas in small towns , if the pump lights are on, you can use a credit card and still fill up , even if station is closed . Some towns just have pumps , no building . We normally stopped riding before dark and found a motel. Be aware when riding through Indian reservations , some are dangerous at night!
 
Thanks for the info Larry, sounds like we have about the same riding styles. I was just looking for someone to confirm that gas was in range of the Spyder. Done many trips on a Harley but this is my first long one on the Spyder. Didn't want to have to hang pink panties on my handlebars :roflblack:.
 
i rode Bryce Canyon & Glen Canyon this past May... AWESOME... you also should consider Rt. 95 in Utah, another beautiful ride... then 4 CORNERS.... we rode Rt. 12 both ways, 124 miles each way... Rt. 12 is known as: AMERICA'S MOST SCENIC HIGHWAY.... UNBELIEVEABLE BEAUTIFUL.... if you do Rt. 12, bunk in Torrey, because there's just about 'nothing' at the other end... and have breakfast at HELL'S BACKBONE in Boulder, UT...
ride safely, and enjoy....

If you bring some spare gas, which I highly recommend, the Rotopax can fits well in the trunk and is very tight and sturdy. You might want to consider buying a standard spout, which theyt cannot supply equip the cans with due to current US regulations. If you use the funky no-spill/no-fume spout, be sure to take som nitril gloves to keep the gas off your hands. Those spouts are a pain! The REDA cans are also sturdy, but are harder to seal well and fit better in a saddlebag.

One other piece of advice, where gas stations are sparse, don't pass one up. Better to fill at 60-80 miles than to try to stretch to 150.
 
Place to stay in Colorado

If you or your group need a place to stay in Colorado - I'm half way between Lyons and Estes park, and have a guest suite, and 2 acres if you want to camp. There is a B&B next door to me with 4 rooms as well. I'll offer my suite free, the B&B is reasonable - Little Elk Meadows in Pinewood Springs. Rocky Mtn. National Park is 1/2 hour away, great riding in the area. Send me a pm if I can help.

During my ride out in the Open Spaces... we rode on the 'half-tank-rule'.... when you are down to half a tank of gas, START LOOKING FOR A GAS STATION.... PLEASE, don't take this advise lightly..... or you'll be doing a lot of walking.....

Good idea..!!

When we ryde the unknown we also do the half tank search and fill. We get about 120 miles and can use a walk about anyway..:ohyea:

Which size fits best in the Frunk? I have a couple of two-gallons here and am hoping they will work. Will be looking for some way to mount one of them in the back seat area if possible since my wife and I will each be riding our own vehicles. Anyone come up with a creative way to mount a Rotopax fuel tank on the back?

Anything from one through two should fit. The larger ones just take up more cargo space.
