There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Synthetic blend vs full synthetic

engine chunks

Finished my first oil change, the bike has 1700 miles on it. ( it was killing me trying to wait till 3k for first oil change) . It was rather simple and straightforward. I went with amsoil 10-40 full synthetic motorcycle oil and BRP filter. Only found a few metal shavings ...

+I'm with the others. I don't consider those "shavings"...

Ride on.

Well dam!!!! I'll show my dealer

Let us know what the dealer says. If you sit on this one they may say you could have prevented further damage if you'd said something sooner. At least you'll have this on the books so if something does go wrong you have this on record.

Believe me. None of us are happy to give you this kind of opinion. Hopefully, this will all work out well. That's what we all want to happen.

Hang in there and keep us informed if you think it will help.

Best of luck with those shavings. This was mine after the first change:

I spoke with the dealership, the maintenance dept. told me that it was noted on my account. But from what they have seen with other bikes it seems to be normal

Normal?? Bullcrap!!

Rule of thumb here in the UK.
Any V-Twin: use semi-synthetic. Most of 'em burn bloody oil (which does smell nice!) anyway.
Any Triple : use a motorcycle formulated full synthetic oil. Clue: The container normally has a picture of a motorcycle on it!
If it fulfils or exceeds the minimum required specification then it'll be fine. (Irrespective of whether
it's red, purple, blue, green or sky blue pink!!)

Zounds and Gadzooks!! I have been informed by a member of my research team that Mobil 1 manufacture a Full Synthetic Oil for V-Twins!

I think some dealerships have an official 'Book of Bull'. They run down the appropriate matrix and come out with this kind of statement. This is one of the more common ones. Who knows. They could be right this time. But I would definitely record who you spoke to and when. And keep a copy of that picture handy.

Here is hoping that you never need it.

I've been with the dealer for quite awhile, I once walked into the dealership carrying a bucket that had my commanders rear diff inside of it and it was in 3 pieces. They still went to bat for me with Can-am and got it warrantied. So I feel if the motor craps out they will do all they can to warranty it. I will post an update when I take it in for the 3k service.

I'm from post #27 above ........I'm 69 years old, and would bet I've seen more drain plugs than their entire staff of TECHS combined ........and I have never pulled a plug that looked like that............I never questioned THEIR loyalty to you their Customer ......I think that's fantastic for you..........My concern is when someone ...anyone ... tells me something that is FALSE just to make Me feel good..........I think some of us here where just trying to give you a HEADS -UP regarding what you are being told.................Do you really think there is that much CRAP in every engine out there......end of speech - good luck .....Mike

You've done your due diligence. The dealer hopes everything is ok and if it isn't, they will get it warrantied. You're hoping the same thing with a warranty backing you up. It's not true that your drain plug is normal. But the important things are still in place and you should be good to go whichever way things progress from here.

As others have said, Good Luck!

I don't believe I've ever seen Rotella diesel engine oil mentioned on Spyderlovers. I've heard from several others with a wide mix of bikes, quads, trucks, cars, etc. that used Rotella diesel engine oil in all of their motorized vehicles and were very pleased. I've never used it and don't know anything about it; what opinions or experiences are there by you fellow Spyder riders?

Rob

Shell Rotella T6 full synthetic is fully rated for the requirements of the 2014 1330 engines and is what we recommend and use. We do not install it in the older V-Twins.

When these motors and nearly all others are cast there is a lot of cleaning up with tools to remove extra material. Try as they may, not all of this material is removed prior to the engine being built.

I would give have cut open the filter to see what it showed as well.....

give it a few thousand more miles and repeat, if it is clean you should be ok. If more of the same, it is eating itself for some reason.....
