• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Suzuki 90 degree L twin 1000cc RT!

I have been thinking even before I bought the '13 RT, the Suzuki 90 degree L twin 1000cc would have been perfect in the Spyder! Now after the heat issues if I had $$ to waste I would put that motor in the bike. If it had the right bodywork and mapping there would not be enough OOOOO's in smooth to describe the bike.:2thumbs: The L twin is notoriously proven, reliable and smooth for many miles. Torque is good and HP good. If BRP was going to farm it out anyway, that would be my motor of choice. What does everyone think?
 
Apart from the 3 wheel thing, one of the great attractions of the Spyder for me was the Rotax twin cylinder engine - acquainted with them in a fairly significant number of applications, & now with my Spyder experiences added to the list, IMO things just wouldn't be the same with any other motor!! :(

Besides, it seems that the heat alleviation kit on my 2013 RT Ltd largely addresses bodywork & airflow issues, so I'd guess that whatever motor went under the same (original) tupperware would still have the same or very similar heat issues.... which btw, after the heat recall anyway, seem to be fairly well non-existent!! And things can get pretty damn hot down under!! ;)

I just believe IMHO, that there would be even less heat surrounding the bike and the smooth tourqe of that motor would be incredible!! Used to have a V strom. Although 500 lbs. lighter than the RT, I just think it would be a good fit.
 
Guess I should have been more clear. Putting any engine in a BRP designed and produced product other than Rotax will never happen. Rotax, BRP, Ski Doo, Sea Doo and some European snowmobile companies I can't remember the names of are all related.

You will see Suzuki engines in Artic Cat Products and Fuji heavy industries engines in Polaris products but never in a Ski Doo etc...
 
Personally, I'd like to see a Rotax/Aprilia RSVR V4 motor - now THAT's performance: 201 hp at 13,000 rpm .. would be um... adequate. ;)

the rotax aprilla 998 cc 149 hp engine (they already have thesein spyders). I love the high rpmV-twin. Or a 1200 cc twin...?? :dontknow:
 
BRP has exclusively used Rotax-power for almost 50 years...
Although I DID have a 1965 Ski Doo in the family, that had a Sachs engine in it... :yikes:

Although I have not personally experienced the triple, I believe a v twin was the right choice for this bike. The way the the Spyder just wants me to hurry up and shift gears like, right now, may get me a ticket.:shocked: It feels like it has a shift assist on the sm5. Is this true?

Remember that a 90 degree Vee-Twin is going to take up a lot more space, than the current setup.
How will you re-package it? :shocked:

Actually the L twin would not take up a lot more space. It is quite comparable in space taken up. It can be shifted in such a way like Suzuki does in the Vstrom where the body work could stay the same on the RT. May even have a little room between the cylinders to make a little bit bigger gas tank.:yes:
