Suggestions needed

I am hoping someone could give me some suggestions. My dealer installed my quick connect for my battery tender in the frunk area of my 2013 ST Limited. I am concerned that if I leave the frunk open, mice will get in and chew or make nests in my Spyder. If I close the frunk on the cord, I worry that it won't be good for the cord or the seal of the frunk. Is there anything that any of you do to keep mice away when storing your Spyders?

When you close the runk don't latch it, leave it open enough for the cord to sneak out, that should be smaller than a mouse hole. Can mice climb up slippery tupperware?

Battery Tender

My dealer install my battery tender on the side and I ask why he told me that the conventional way the frunk will need to be open so he did it on the side and works perfect for me.....

Actually, I suspect you would have no problems even if you latch the trunk. To test, put the cord in place with the battery tender unplugged, then shut the trunk. The cord should compress the weather stripping and not kink. After a few hours open the trunk and examine the cord and the weatherstrip. If neither shows sharp kinks or lasting impressions, you should be good to go. Otherwise just lay the trunk shut but don't latch it.

As to the mice, if you don't like the smell of mothballs (I don't), then use rat/mouse bait.

Scotty this is the first time I have seen you give questionable advice. Rat/mouse bait IS NOT a good idea I have found it carried into areas you do not want it to be and if it does work( lots of rats/mice have developed immunity) you may not like the results if you can't find the smell( dont' ask how I know). Best to use a good trap with some peanut butter then you will be able to dispose of the violator without stinking up the garage or house.:thumbup:

Also try mint oil. We use it when winterizing our trailer in Maine. Put a few drops on a some cotton balls, drop in a zip lock bag and put a few small holes in the bag. Mice, chip monks, etc. hate the smell. It's not bad if you like mint!

we have the power outlet in the frunk and run the cords out the seam/joint of the weather stipping. As for the rodents you have got a lot to choose from mentioned above. If the problem is that bad you need to address the whole area. Maybe get the sonic repeller...good luck you should end up with a sweet /or not so sweet smelling location...:roflblack: But no rodents..!!

Just another suggestion. Place a bar of original scent 'Irish Spring' soap in the trunk. Might put one in the front trunk and under the seat. Many folks here in the desert use this approach to deter roof/atic rats.

AS some one above said use Dryer Sheets (BOUNCE) is probably the best.

If the rodents smell food, peanut butter, poison laced grains or any choice you want, this is what is attracting them in the first place... The Dryer Sheets have an offensive smell to them that drive them away. AND your Roadster smells GREAT

YOu might just want to make sure that it's not buggering up that gasket... Unless you also don't mind the Frunk filling up with water... :yikes:

I keep rat poison bait trays in my garage, year round. It keeps rats and mice out, and out of the basement, too. I haven't had any in the house since I started doing this. Since my Spyder lives in the garage, it benefits, too. If you aren't riding, regularly, you should put poison or traps in the vicinity of your Spyder or they may nest in it. Lots of nice enclosed hiding places inside the Tupperware . . .

There are lots of methods of rodent control. You need to exercise your own conscience and address your own sensitivities as to your choice. If you are allergic to cats that's a bad idea, if you put strings down the drains to let the spiders climb out (my grandmother's second husband did) then the rat bait will probably offend you, if you hate the smell of mothballs that's not so good (the odorless ones don't work). I have never had success with dryer sheets nor with traps (and the dead mice still stink, they are just easier to find). March to the beat of your own drummer...but do something or the rodents may make a home in your Spyder...or even damage it.
