• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Stuck in gear

This has happened to me twice now. The first time it was between 3rd and 2nd and it would not shift up or down. And it was like in netural. The 2nd time it was in 2nd gear I turned it off and it would not start. Both times I plad around and it finally started. I have a 2009 SE5 I am a very happy owner.:2thumbs:

There is a procedure for dealing with situations like this in your Owner's Guide. Basically, step on the brake hard and it should start and shift. If it gets hopelessly stuck, there is a manual procedure for clearing it with a wrench.

Do you have a SE or SM ? Was the ground wire update done ? I had the same problem from time to time but after the ground wire was installed -no problems so far after about 6K.

This same thing happened with my 09 SE5 while my wife was riding it.

Took it to the dealer. The connection to the Gear Positioning Sensor was loose so they took care of that. However, the bike was still throwing a code when they ran the diagnostics on it. They replaced my GPS and I have not had any problems with the shifting at all since then.

Another thing to check would be the Gear Shift lever make sure its tight on the Clutch Shaft. When the Bike is in Neutral, the lever should be pointed almost straght down.

Get a 13 mm wrench. Look on the left side of the SE5, just ahead of the footpeg. There is a slot in the tupperware through which you will see the shifting arm. It has flats to fit your wrench on the side of the arm remote from you. Downshift is downwards, upshift upwards. You'll be underway in seconds.

MYSHIRE - Has the "coil grounding wires" update been performed? That was BRP's recommendation when I had your symptoms, and my SE5 has not missed a single shift in the 2500 miles since.

A per-incident fix is what NEEZ described, and the wrench is in the tool kit in your front trunk.

Humm, I have had the ground wire update and the dealership replaced the GPS a few weeks back. Got it back thought all was ok, so a day later I was riding to work one day and the damn shifter (SE5) would not downshift, on its own with dropping RPMs or manually with my thumb. Had to shut the bike down and let the system reset. I have also has some cold starts which the shifter would not engage from a stand still. Again, had to shut it down and wait 2 minutes to let the system reset.

Even with all that I still love to ride my SE5.
