There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Struggling to find anyone in Indiana to Service a 2009 Spyder V-Twin - any thoughts?

Struggling to find Indianapolis area service for a 2009 Spyder 990. Live in the Martinsville/Bloomington area. Dealers say they will only work on bikes less than 10 years old. Any thoughts? Many thanks!

This is a common problem everywhere. Also, dealers are only required to stock parts for 10 model years. Posting here is a good first step in trying to find an independent Spyder mechanic. If you were closer to SC I'd be happy to work on your bike!

Thanks for the reply. You are a good person.

It may depend on what you need done. I would think they could still do general maintenance like oil changes, tire changes, etc., as these are fairly universal processes. The next step is to do the job yourself. Which can not only be rewarding, but save a good deal of money. Still, I know many are not interested in this approach and I get it.

It is a shame that BRP is willing to let a perfectly good machine turn into a paperweight for the lack of lifting a finger to help. But it does boost new sales. And that's the direction corporate wants to go these days.

We work on tons of older Spyders. It's no big deal. Parts are still available and we're glad to do it. Hopefully, there is someone in your area who can help you out.

To elaborate on Ron's post above, I wish that BRP would develop a program to acknowledge and officially approve of independent mechanics. At least for the older machine's that their official dealers won't touch. Not everyone can afford (or even want) a newer $30,000 machine. Why abandon them to try to get new sales?

The biggest issue with working on older bikes is sourcing parts, like an Engine Control Module. Simple things like oil changes, tire replacement, changing spark plugs, etc are not a problem. If the tech, after several hours trying find the problem, discovers that the part that failed is no longer produced what does he do? He could spend his time searching for the part (billable). If he is unable to locate it, he has to tell the customer that the bike cannot be repaired and hands the customer a bill for his labor. At $100+ per hour that bill could be large. Now the customer is out a sizeable amount of cash and still has a bike that does not run.

If you're on FB, look up

Joshua Spyder-Man Richardson

He lives in Indy and works on Spyders in his spare time. He's on a trip now (CO and UT) and he has a waiting list for service, but he's your man. He's on SL but I forget his handle.

Also, if you're in any US Spyder Ryders group, He's in the Central Indiana Brickyard Chapter. Look him up.

You are only 388 miles from BajaRon, so scoot down there and see him. That's what I'd do if I were you.
