• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Street Magic Spyder TIPS Installation Question

OK folks, I'm a little confused on a step. I just got all my LED's, accent lighting, Brightsides etc. delivered from 3 different companies. I'm using the Street Magic Spyder TIPS
to tie the brightsides, mudflap lights and LED fender light into turn signals. This is what step 6 says after pulling the instrument cluster and front Tupperware off.

6) Locate wires going to right front directional. Test wires to determine which wire is the positive wire going to front turn
signal. We would normally tell you a color wire to attach to, however we have seen BRP reverse the color code in these
connectors for no rhyme or reason. Therefore, a test light is the best method to assure the polarity is correct.

My question is 'test light'. By that, does it mean a test light that I would use to stick into an outlet to see if it's hot, or a fender tip bulb with the leads stripped and using that as a test light?
If I don't get it right I am warned --> Note:
It is crucial that TIPS units orange wire be connected to the positive wire
going to the front directional light. Reversed polarity will cause TIPS unit to self destruct and is not covered under
warranty.

I'll have the instrument cluster off and the front panels. I really don't want to have all of this done for naught and order another unit and wait another week to get them.

Thanks!

I actually just did mine last week and the wires are not standardized as they say. I used a meter to test which wire was hot. They were both different from one side to another. This is true to their claim.

I also went to install them and tested and the striped wire was the hot...but a cheap $4 tester from walmart if you don't have one. BTW the wires that came with my fender tips kit were not long enough :( Not happy for the price of these things. I need to get some wire and connectors to extend them.

I just realized that I had downloaded the PDF files for both the RS and RT accidentally. I have an RT and was reading the instructions for the RS. I saw that the instructions were in the bags but I didn't want to open them until I had read the PDF's forwards and back again. The install for the two is very different. I notice that the Posi-Tap connectors can hold up to 4 leads. I'm assuming that means that the LED's that I want to correspond with the TIPS unit turn signal should all be placed into the end of the Posi-Tap while the hot wire passes through that other end of the PT.
Does that sound right? It doesn't exactly show how to attach other lights to it.

To get the fender tip-mud flap lights to act as turn signals on the RT you have to pull the mirrors and posi-tap into the hot wire somewhere below the plug that disconects the mirrors . I think from ESI its a long blue wire and in the kit they give you a very long zip tie that you fish down from the hole where the wires from the mirrors are, then hook onto the blue wire pull it back up and posi-tap it bellow the mirror plug and then tuck it back down inside the hole leaving the plug out so you can plug it back into the mirrors.

Hope I haven't totally confused you.

Thanks fastfraser, that's pretty much how they describe doing the brightsides as well. I'm sure it'll make more sense when I get into the real guts of it. The pics that I'm seeing are horrible in quality and can't tell if I'm looking at roadkill or if its in the bowels of the bike. I'm going to try and shoot some decent shots as I go along and also document any major screw-ups that might be easy for a non electrical engineer to make.

What I did was go to the Custom Dynamics site and print the install instructions from there. Much clearer and easier to follow .
