• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Storage for Two Up on the RT Long Ride

1st and foremost is good riding gear.
Other items:

1. Jeans take up a lot of space so only 1 pair. You can wear them for a week without washing them, maybe longer if you are only wearing them for a few hours a day.
2. Shorts - 1 -2 pair
3. Socks - 1 - 2 pair and switch out each day and wash the other set in a sink.
3. Underwear - 1 pair per day or washable type like Duluth trading buck naked. They will dry over night and are comfortable on the bike (Men & woman's)
4. Shirts - 1 - 2 wicking style shirts for riding - Alternate and wash. 6 shirts to wear at night. You can wear a shirt more than once unless you are a sloppy eater like me. :) It seems like we always buy a souvenir tee shirt or two along the way so that can be added to the mix.
5. Shoes - 1 pair of casual shoes that can be worn with everything. I usually wear hiking sandals & riding shoes
6. Jacket - I have an Olympia Air Glide 4 riding jacket that comes with a rain liner. It doubles for a jacket when needed.
7. Toiletries - Whatever you normally use at home only in small bottles. I use bar soap as it is more compact and will last 2 weeks+

We always stay in a motel that has a hair dryer for the wife. No need in packing bulky items that are readily available.

Lay everything out that you think you need and then cut it in 1/2. UPS & the post office are your friend when it comes to the beads and trinkets you buy along the way.

There are stores along the way to buy things as you need them. Don't stress over packing, just have fun seeing the sites.

Peter's last paragraph is valuable. I suggest adding to that strategy making a written list of everything you take and at the end of the trip cross off that list things you did not use and start your next trip with the shortened list. I still fine tune my lists on each trip.

Good stuff here, thank to all that contributed, and to those who will contribute. Looks like I am concerned about little or nothing, and so the plan progresses. Hope get to the Deland FL rally to look and kick a tire or two.

I do the approach of 2-3 days of shirts, socks underwear. Quick dry variety so I can wash in the sink every day or two. I wear riding pants so only need one pair of jeans or hiking pants for evenings. Hiking pants with zip off legs double as shorts. I wear riding boots on the ride but bring a pair of flips flops and also light hiking shoes for off the bike or exercising.

Usually we lay out we need - then cut back. We have had no issues with 4-5 day trips. Longer should be no problem because you really do not need more as you are washing clothes and cycling the wear of 2-3 outfits.

My friend's girl friend used a trash compactor to compress their clothing (T-shirts socks pants under wear and etc). LOL As days went buy she mailed items home that she couldn't get repacked, long with other items she purchased on the trip. At the end of our journey her post office told her she needed a uhaul when she came to pickup all the boxes she'd mailed. It was her first long trip on a 2wheeler but she was thinking all the time.

We have been on multiple multi week trips the longest being 40 days. We pack the same whether it be a weekend trip or 40 day trip. For me I wear wicking type pants and shirts, so one is packed and one is being worn. What takes the most space up for us is the electronics We [ahhh I should say Me] carry. Laptop, CPAP machine, 2 cameras, battery charges, wires, etc etc. For clothes each of us gets one compression bag and that's it. If you really need it and you didn't pack it, there is a store someplace near by generally. We have never used an external storage device on any of our trips for the RT or the FJR or the Connie.

We have a waterPROOF duffle that gets strapped to the trunk rack. Works great. When stopping for lunch, helmets and suits come in with us; everything else stays on the Spyder.

Many 6 month deployments packed into a navy seabag, one or two weeks on a RT is a breeze! They sell underwear and socks everyday.

I am the same way with the electronics...LOL. More space than my clothes!

That's a great looking bag but it looks like it will bump into your antenna(if you have one).I use a Kurakyn bag that is much smaller and it just touches my antenna.I dont need that antenna and will try to get rid of it this winter.Be careful you dont go over weight limit for rack.

On the 2020 RTL, the antenna doesn't interfere with the rack.

So Bill you started this thread a year ago. Did you take that trip? I don't remember a report on it. How was it? Did your wife enjoy it? If you still need packing advice, just remember your Goldwing days. You have more space on the Spyder.
Igive the Frunk and the deep saddlebag to my wife, the small side and that part of the trunk not used for tools and spare gloves is mine. I put rain gear and my Cpap on the rack. There is only one rule, when your space is gone, you are done. I don't tell my wife what to bring or not to bring. I give her her space and she can fill it as she sees fit. The first time I showed her how I pack, made a couple of suggestions and she did pretty good. Good luck on your travels.

No problems with the tour pack cracking or breaking? That seems a lot to put on those tour packs.

Not really. I'm putting underwear in there, not bricks. Groceries and heavier things go in the saddle bags or front trunk.
Also, the RT Limited trunk is not the same as the old F3 trunk.
They look the same, but the lid is much heavier on the RT Limited.

Unfortunately I did not make that trip to TN yet, but Millie and had that discussion this very morning for early October. Trip up to Marietta GA for few days with my daughter, then off to Kodak (Sevierville) TN, I do not know if that will happen, but's fun to think about. I think the packing is gonna work out, we did a 3 day trip to Destination Daytona last weekend for TrikeFest and we had room to spare, that is saying a lot. Man, what a dream ride compared to my to my GW/RoadSmith. Constant rain all the way back home, but I didn't care, it was just fun. By the way, that's on You Tube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxHYUhhf1Zc&t=1115s, if you want to take a look. Millie and I made a few moments in there about 18 mins in I believe. Had to chuckle at your comment, "I don't tell my wife what to take". I can relate, but she does a great job, if I did it, I leave half my stuff behind just because I forgot it. That means a trip to Walmart, and I don't like that. :gaah:
