There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Still Having a Parking Brake Issue

It was gripping good last night. Rode to work this morning, it seemed fine. Put it in the garage this afternoon, the pedal clicks like it should (4 times), but the bike still rolls.....

Mine is a 2011 RS SE5 with the parking brake pulley. I had pulled that off last night, turned the caliper actuator clockwise (gently) until it wouldn't turn any more, backed it off a bit (it didn't even make 1 turn around clockwise), then re-assembled. This is a combo of watching the video posted on another thread, and the green manual. The pulley goes forward when you use the pedal, so it's trying. Any suggestions??? Now I'm getting frustrated.... Sigh....

I'd also like to mention that the cable nuts are in the middle of the screw by the actual parking brake (right by the pulley). I'm not sure if I have to move them towards the front of the bike or the back to tighten the cable??

Could it be possible that the park brake actuation cable has been over-stretched at some stage & is now just not up to the job any more?? These sorts of cables generally have the capacity for a certain amount of stretch, that's actually how they keep things tight under load; but if they get stretched beyond their limits just the once, it tends to mean that from then on, they can take up tension initially but will then relax & stretch more as their time under load passes.... :sour:

If this is the case, every time you adjust the park brake up tight, it'll work fine initially, but if you leave it set for a while it'll gradually ease off as the cable stretches even more (until eventually it'll break at it's weakest or most stretched point!!) - is that what's happening here?? If it is, fitting a new cable & making sure that the initial adjustment isn't excessively tight should resolve the problem - altho bear in mind that new cables do tend to have a little initial stretch in them, so even if you set it correctly now, you might need to check the adjustment/tension again after a few days of use, just to make sure that the settling in 'stretch to working static length' hasn't meant it's eased off the park brake application so much that it's not applying properly anymore. Just the one re-tension should see it working well into the future.

I had thought about that. The brake pedal assembly (cam and such) was not together right, so I suppose it's possible. I got that all squared away yesterday. I'm thinking I may need to remove the pulley and turn the actuator again. Maybe I turned it back a tad too much?? :dontknow: When I watched the Pirate Powersports video, they said to turn the actuator until it wouldn't move, then back it off a little. The green manual is saying to leave it against the pad, but not to force it.

I GOT IT NOW!!!!!

Turned the actuator a smidge more. Didn't realize there are teeth in the center of the pulley, so I turned that a little.

2 clicks, and Spydie ain't going no where!!! My neighbor tried pushing it with the parking brake on and couldn't get it to budge--and he's a pretty big guy. Yesssssss!!!!!

Persistence, grease, and dirty hands pays off again!!!:yes:

If you are doing 4 pedal clicks you have probably stretched the cable. We used to do no more than 2 clicks. Every time the spouse did more--I had to re-adjust it. Got to where I could fix that one in about two minutes. If it is adjusted right, two clicks will hold it good. Give it a try.

I got it finally. Only 2 clicks and it's not going anywhere!!!

Cool deal

Once you figure it out, it is simple. Keep on! 6 years ago, Ann could barely check oil; now, she can fix most problems. Play with it; you learn. We do!! It's fun!!! Joe

Pardon the "jack" but does anyone rember anything on the forum about a park brake mod that is a hand operated rod? I saw it once but cant find it again.

Thanks
