There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Statement of acknowlgement ST heat issues

The test by spyderlovers was last summer in Quebec. I would think that pre-production Spyders probably had a lot of different parts on them than the production models do.

Spyder STs

BRP should take all the STs off of the showroom floors. There are some major problems and it isn't fair to sell these inferior spyders to the public. Don't they realize that with the technology that is out there people can spread the word quickly about how unhappy they are with a product? When someone gets hurt it will really ruin their reputation. I hope that no one does become a victim because of their poor quality of these bikes and I hope that people will put pressure on BRP to make things right.

:agree: I test rode one last November; I was told that it was a hand-built prototype worth about a quarter of a million dollars...

Then I realized how far I'd get before they caught me... :D Yup; it WAS perfect... but the price sure wouldn't have been!

I worked in manufacturing for 18 years, Back in the 90's we made parts for BRP ( Sea doo). Our company forged aluminum parts and whenever we did engineering prototype parts,
They were some of the best looking parts that our customer would ever see, A lot of time and development is always put into prototypes usually more than they're worth . Production parts different story.

Quote: Buttsy: "Because they didn't think they had a problem...............Jerbear wrote somewhere in the 6-12 threads on going on this issue that they needed to do better real world testing. I have to agree it appears the R&D function really missed the boat? I personally don't think they knew they had an issue and decided to ignore it? Could be wrong I guess but again the money it costs to fix after the fact and the brand damage will far exceed the cost of a heat shield and ceramic coated pipes (or wrapped).:dontknow: "

If I remember correctly: part of the "real world testing" on the ST's this year was conducted by BRP having some of Spyderdom's popular riders test riding the prototypes. Most came back, when they were allowed to, praising the attributes of the new ST's. I don't remember any of them saying anything about heat or reliability issues encountered during the testing. I do not remember if this was a longer miles test, or just a controlled test for publicity purposes by BRP. Just a point to ponder or have some civil discussion about.
It was 40*F IN Canada WHEN THEY WERE RIDING THE PROTOTYPES... heat would have been a good thing.

we test rode the 2013 models...October 2011...it was low 40 F....if there was any heat coming from the engine area...I never found it

It sure seems as if "Our" testers never had the chance to get the full picture...
I doubt that it was intentional on the part of BRP; scheduling and delivery timetables were just working against everybody...

Don't think it was intentional either. Do think they need to rethink where and when they test.

Delivery and timetables are a fact of life in the business world.

Not unlike the need for customer satisfaction.jmo

This is all very unfortunate for everyone, especially the owners affected...Just when all of the talk at the owners event was centered on more emphasis being placed on the dealers business practices...I hope the issue of overheating brake parts is resolved, but I also hope this doesn't delay or derail BRP'S thinking on making their dealers more accountable...I thought that was too good to be true anyway..

Don't get me wrong this is not a laughing matter but this is not the first combustion engine to catch fire. My lawn tractor did the same thing and yes I was on it but not for long. Yes it sucks the time and place. But really lets face it the design of the combustion engine is to have a chemical reaction between a fuel and oxidant accompanied by the production of heat producing a flame which we try to control. Yep cars, motorcycles, lawn mowers catch fire every day on highways and in garages. if this a big problem I am sure BRP engineers are all over it. Coming from an engineer dealing a with automative safety device one of the biggest fear is for some one to get hurt or killed because in my mistake. We need to stand with BRP and help fix an issue if there is one and beat them up!

just my opinion.

What's wrong here? A hand built prototype costing $250K being used for test rides instead of what comes out of the factory. It does not give a correct picture of the true vehicle. That is not exactly comparing apples with apples--IMO. This piece seems a little big for me to remain silent about. Sorry. :dontknow:

We're always cool! :2thumbs: :yes::ohyea: :thumbup:

What is it that they say about friends:
A friend will come get you from jail at 3:00am...
A Best-Friend will be sitting right along side of you saying, "Damn... that was fun!"

So I get trampled for mentioning the 'poor' quality of these machines, but no one else gets hammered. Maybe if enough owners finally get fed up to the point that they start dissing these machines to prospective buyers and BRP starts feeling the pinch in market share, maybe then BRP will correct these issues and make a machine that is worth the dollars we're all laying down to get them. I can only guess that until sales decline and the reasons for that decline are felt and accepted by BRP, the problems will not go away. I know of a motorcycle dealer - - sells multiple brands - - who has made it clear he WILL NOT accept a Spyder as a trade-in under any circumstances, and he would never become a Spyder dealer.

:agree: But BRP Can't lose Market share when they are the Market 100%, [In Reverse trikes] Only competition will improve a product.... It's that way whether you're selling screwdrivers or trikes....
