• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Starting Problem?

Every now and then when I go to start my SE5 Spyder nuthing happens.
I turn the key, depress the brake, check the kill switch, push in the M button, and hit the starter button. --- Nuthin
It seems to happen most after not riding for a while.
Like I said it is very intermittent. I fiddle-fart around with the sequence a bit and after a while "luckily" the thing has started.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Mike

Use the handlebar M switch, check for a bad relay.

I had this problem but it wasn't intermittent. I tried my "spare key" and it started fine. I then called my dealer and was told that one key must not be programmed correctly and to bring it back. I wnet back to the dealer and they have a "special" key they put in my ignition and then hooked the spyder to the buds computer and with a few key strokes reprogrammed the key that didn't work. Both keys work fine now. Don't know if that is your problem, but it might be worth talking to your dealer.

Like Scotty says...the first thing to do is NEVER use the "M" button on the dash. Use the one on the front of the left handlebar....you also don't need to wait for the safety message to finish. If that still doesn't help then I'd start checking other things.

try changing your relays for head light to the main relay ...had same prob worked for me now i always carry a extra relay. it will work as headlight, fan, or main:thumbup:

I was gonna say check the air pressure in your front right tire ....but it's way too early in the morning here for me to be a smart @ss just yet.... maybe after a few more cups black brain lube. :coffee:

I have noticed a similar problem when I turn the key off while still in gear - doesn't always want to go to N - Actually cranks while still indicating 1 on the display.

Thanks everyone for the helpful comments.
I have discovered that it may have to do with it being in neutral when it is shut off. It may not be detecting and shifting to neutral everytime, when the brake is depressed. Just a hunch after extensive playing with it.

On another note.
Why the heck do they have it start that way any way?
Why not have it start like a regular motorcycle?
If it is for security all the thief has to do is read the display to find out what he is supposed to do.

Easy... the BRP lawyers designed the starting sequence to minimize liability.
