• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Starting Delay

Bozzzz

Do other motorcycles have to go through the delay that we have starting our Spyders? Is there a way to get around this? I know, I can wait a minute or so to start, but I don't want to.

Why on earth do they have this feature? Does BRP really think anyone is going to read the pull-out card over and over again????

It's part of the computer boot process. Just like your PC or laptop. Every componet has to check in with the ECM before you can go. It doesn't take that long. I turn my key on before I put my helmet on when I'm in a hurry. By the time I get on the bike it's ready to start.

The "Read the Pull Out Card" is just a CYA by the BRP suits.

Trying to hurry can mess up the boot up process for a no-start or a bad start. Recommend taking your time and letting it do its thing. Ahhhhhhhhhhh the wonders of high technology.

I generally keep my helmet and jacket if the frunk. When I'm ready to ride I insert the key, push in and rotate to pop open the frunk then turn the key to start the boot up process. By the time I'm on the bike the Spyder has been waiting on me to hit the mode and start buttons. The boot up time has never been an issue for me.

Seems like something we all have to live with. Enjoy the smell of the roses. They are not here forever.

Other bikes that also rely on computers have some kind of delay when the key if first turned on. The Spyder delay is the longest I've seen, but is easy to work around by planning ahead. I usually turn the key on before I put on my gloves. By the time they're on and I'm in the saddle the bike is ready to start.

Remind me, this is the RT we're talking about, right?

My RS "boots up" in a flash, from the moment I turn the key until I can hit the Mode button it's maybe 2, 3 seconds tops.

I seem to recall the RT being more of a pain in the :cus:.

My 09 RS takes about 4-5 seconds...The RT I took a test ryde on took loonger. But I do as others do and let the spyder boot up while in gear up.

While at Spyderfest we went on a tour of the city's murals on our Spyders. At each mural the group would shut down their Spyders and we would hear about the particular mural. Then they would tell us the where the next stop would be and everyone would fire up their Spyders and head on to the next stop. There were a lot more RSs on the tour than Rts and at each stop those of us on RTs would be the last ones leaving as ours take a lot longer to boot up than the RS.

It seems that the RT has a pretty long start up sequence. The RS also has about 3 to 4 sec startup but if you just shut down lets say at a gas station and then get back on you can just hit the start button and it starts in a second. The RS is a much better ride for bank robbing.

short on cash

Good to know I am a little short on cash:joke:

Boot time

Life's too short to get stressed about a few seconds delay while a computer boots. Besides, I really believe you need to let :spyder2: warm up before getting underway. God doesn't charge you for time spent waiting for :spyder2: to boot or waiting in line at Wally World to buy a six pack :roflblack:.
