• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Starter button issues

I've read several posts from the past about issues with connections on relays and grounds and just about every other gremlin that can hide in these Spyders.. I'm having issues with the PTS button. Sometimes you have to finagle it to get the thing to start. With all this world of wisdom and knowledge here,, My question is what would be the reprocution of installing a Push button switch to start it manually after the nanny has booted..All my other bikes have this setup and no issues, but then again "Steve Jobs" :roflblack:didn't design them either..

WOW... 106 veiws and not one opinion... But I thank you for your honesty.. Ima gonna doit anyways..Nanny can just get glad in the same panties she got mad in!!:ohyea:

You're in uncharted territory. I wouldn't try, but I don't want to throw cold water on your plans without knowing that it wouldn't work. If you could rig it temporarily, you could try without doing anything drastic until you knew.

It'll be a temp condition to see if it works. I have put so thought into it and observation. The only concern right now is the lights don't activate till after engine is running. You are correct, there is uncharted waters.

I've never had one apart or tried so take it for what it's worth....Just a quick brainstorm.

I'd imagine the starter button itself is still a simple two wire momentary switch. Also, from what I remember reading "somewhere" the lights are triggered by rpm. Thought I remember seeing 800 rpm is what it's looking for to turn on the lights....

Seems it would be fairly straight forward to pull it apart and do some basic testing on the switch. Keep us posted.

I've had it apart, the button works just fine when I squeeze it between my fingers.. Once it is in the cradle it becomes cantankerouis. It's also more than a 2 wire switch..Hence the question of concern. 5 wires if I recall. Hopefully this next week I'll have a bay open in the shop for a day to tinker with it..

Schnauzer while you have the module apart check how many wires are connected to the Kill switch. My kill switch works as bad as your starter switch. I have had it take five minutes to turn off the engine once tripped. I'm thinking that these switches are tied to the CAN-BUS system.

Kill switch has two wires according to the diagram. They are electrical, not CANBus. The switch opens the ground from the DESS module. Yours is probably faulty.

The starter switch does not show that many wires, either. Some must be running to the cruise control.

Good to know, thanks! This is a safety thing and needs to be fixed. I can push and bang on the switch and it still does not work. Just works out of the blue so wondered if it could have been a communication issue.

I agree that it is a safety issue. I'd see your dealer ASAP.
