• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

start up problem

New issue with the wife's 2010 RT. Turn on the key and after pushing the mode button the screen goes sort of blank. It has 3 narrow, horizontal black lines seperated by 3 wider grey (screen color) lines and the start button does nothing. She then recycles everthing with the key and thus far it has corrected and run fine. I think it has happened 4 times in the last 6 weeks or so and when it was hot 3 of those times. Anyone with any experience like hers??

First things first, you sure your battery has a strong charge?

Todays electronics require full power note to start freaking out.

You said 2010 so wondering if you have replaced the stock battery before, these small MC battery's don't last near as long as a factory car battery.

check battery as stated. Also a good 5 stage charger will help keep the battery living strong.

You also said it was hot when it happened, was the screen in direct sunlight? My screens have gone black when hot and in direct sunlight but will go back to normal as soon as it is no longer in sunlight.

Step one..!!

check all battery connections. At the battery, at the aux posts and all ground connections. Best to loosen clean and reconnect if looking crusty. As Ann said direct sunlight can fade out the screen (only thing usefull there is pull down the safety card and cover the screen)...

I can actually make my screen lock up that way if I turn the key on, off, and back on again before waiting for the press mode screen. It will actually get stuck in a boot loop and show bars like you describe. To get out of it I have to turn it off and wait about 2 minutes. This is on my 2011 RTS. I cannot always make that happen but I have caused it to happen a few times.

:agree: I have done the same on my 12 RT-S

I wouldn't think that the sun is still getting high enough in the sky, for this to be the problem; but it's worth a closer look anyway!
Otherwise; the battery's age, and it's connections would be my most likely suspects... Happy Hunting! :2thumbs:
