There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Look at starting page 104 in your owners manual. Remember there is mileage and time. People seem to forget the time part.

I do understand what you mean. I am in a highly technical field and spend inordinate amounts of time writing up software-related information that obviously people don't read but expect me to explain in person.
I think, though, the question might not have been motivated by ignoring the manual but by asking people on the site their opinions and how they might vary from the manual. I have gleaned very good information off the site that either was not covered in the manual, was covered in a cursory fashion in the manual, or was contradictory from the manual. In this case, I wonder (as I am not a mechanic) if the maintenance schedule might vary from what the manual says based on people's opinions or based on riding/environmental/seasonal conditions. Probably not, but perhaps that was the motivation for the question?

you are absolutely correct, NO dumb questions! and I read the manuals.
for example, new BMW cars, and others, you change oil every 15,000 miles (factory recommendation), service people and drivers suggested every 7,500.
Does that makes sense now, why I asked my question?

Soooo... What does the manual say about the maintenance schedule?
Maybe it's just the "Sheep" in me talking; but I don't think that the folks who built the bike, would lie to us about the best way to maintain the bikes.

we read the book and the dealer still tried to push us to do a 600 mile service -- because they hadn't read the manual of a 3000 mile service -- I told them to check the 2014 manual --- I don't think they didn't like getting the extra money

The 2014 ST & RS use the conventional maintenance schedule.
600 Mile initial and then every 4600 miles.
Please do not complicate things quoting 2014 RT schedules.

Never said it was a dumb question... just made the statement it is hard to believe people do not read their manuals.... I think reading the manual is first thing on the list... then if you have a question about the manual.... ask it

What model do you have? :dontknow: You are in the ST forum. The ST have the 998 v twin and and the service schedule is 600 miles and then every 4600 miles there after for oil & filter.
If you actually have a 14 RT with the 1330 then it is 3000 miles and then every 9000 after that. If this is the case then dealer does not know what they are talking about or they are trying to perform and have you pay for a service that is not required.
