Well, we picked up our Spyder from the dealer this morning --it was there to have a fender bolt drilled/replaced it (must have broke while riding from the vibrations we think), get inspection sticker, and to add brp handlebar riser. Well work was done and it was ready to be picked up...we went picked up the bike and decided to go for a ride to the New England Food Truck Festival in Salem NH about 25 miles from our house. Well we got to Salem and the bike started to buck repeatedly, throw dps, vss, limp home mode, etc.. managed to barely get over to the road side. Turned the bike off and gave it some time to see if we could restart-- nope. The electrical came on but it wouldn't turn over, dead. Went to call our extended warranty roadside assitance company and after an hour on the phone with them they tell us they cant find anyone in network to come tow us so we can choose to use an out of network person and only get reimbursed 100.00 towards our tow. At this point it's like 98 degree out, we've been on the roadside for an hour and a half so what choice do we have. We call a few local tow companies find one who can come to us within an hour--everyone else two to three and we wait. I call my family who thanksfull only lives about 20 minutes away and my Mom comes to save us and wait for the tow truck. By the time she got there it'd be three hours outside in the sun so we were very sunburnt. Get the Spyder loaded and hand the drive $200.00 in cash since he only accepts cash and have my Mom drive us home to our car and head for our dealership in Concord - Freedom Cycle to make sure the bike arrives before closing. It's now about 3:30 and we are just hoping they'll look at it prior to them shutting down for the next two days, and for the Wednesday holiday. When we get there the Spyder is already being worked on and service manager assures us he'll fiqure it out and get us running if he can.
45 minutes later ... everyone gone, shop closed except us and Spyder techs they find a wire has been rubbing against the front tire and causing it to throw electrical codes..thus screwing with the nanny, etc... they explain the bike isn't sensing the brake is being pressed and won't allow the bike to start - they get it to start up but then the throttle is wide open. So long story shirt Spydie is still at the shop, they ordered a new wire, new clips, and are going to start checking the electrical shift and throttle to find out why it's wide open with the smallest crank. They said they'd cannabalise another Spyder on sight for parts on Tuesday is need be. Thankful they were able to see it so quickly... just can't help wondering if the wire was knocked or improperly run after they drilled and replaced the bolt earlier the day before....causing it to rub. Brought it up with the service manager and he said anything could have caused it to happen but it was running fine up till it's visit... anyways they said they'd make it right. Everything will be billed under warranty and whatever cant be they will eat the cost.
So long story but Spydie stayed at Freedom Cycle and we came home to add Roadside Assistance with Trip Interruption to our progressive insurance. Not going to just depend on our Roadside Assistance through extended warranty anymore ... I'll only make that mistake once. Took the opportunity to upgrade our accessory coverage to 6000.00 as well.
Long Day for sure and now applying aloe to a nasty sunburn
