• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

:( Took the Spyder in on Monday for the recall fix. No sooner did he start it he shut it off. Asked " did it always sound like that?". My stomach dropped. "I guess so" I said. It sounded like it had a little more "rattle" to it but thought it was from it not being warmed up yet. He told me there was something seriously wrong and he was afraid to start it again. I am far from a "gear head" so I know nothing about what he told me. Something about a loose bolt on the engine cover, causing a gear to rub on the crank case cover. :dontknow: Sound right? He calls BRP for parts and one of the parts is backordered 6 weeks!:cus:.

Good news, my oil change ($150..WTF) will be free since he has to drain it anyway to fix the problem.

Great news later. Wednesday he calls and said BRP will get him the backordered part by friday and I should have my Spyder back by the weekend.:clap: Hindsight...good thing for the recall or who knows what could of happened.

Sounds a bit scary :(
At least you don't have to wait six weeks. I'd hate to go that long without my ride.
Keep us informed, it sounds like something we need to lookout for :doorag:

Sorry to hear about your spyder. "How freaky is that?" Good thing you took your spyder in. 6 weeks no ryde, that would of been awful. Hope no more problems, and you will be out ryding soon again. :f_spider:

That would have been a bummer to wait 6 weeks... Heck, 6 weeks is the entire bike riding season in WI:roflblack:

Sounds like your service tech is right on top of things for you....

Still Spyderless but....

Dealer finally got parts late friday. No time to do it Saturday.:hun: Monday he worked on it all day but didn't have time to do the timing. Tuesday he gets it all together and something is still wrong. He can't get the timing right. The manual has nothing in it to help them with the problem. BRP says there is a DVD on that and after watching it 4 times they still can't get it. Now it's not that they don't know what they are doing it's just something they haven't had to deal with yet. They tried to talk to other dealers but no ones ever had the engine torn apart so they were no help. Wednesday they get a hold of BRP and they finally get it figured out. Still won't see it til friday. Not really a big problem because...........wait for it.........

The BRP guy was in today dropping off a new demo. Apparently this is a first but BRP said I could have the demo until mine is fixed (wish he stopped last week). So I have a Spyder to ride but not mine. The dealer will come to my work on friday and switch theirs for mine. I will miss the non-sqweaking brakes of the demo. Dealer said it had the new softer pads. Not sure if this one has the steering upgrade or not. It seemed to steer easier but my mind might be thinking its better cause it hasn't been riding in 10 days. I'll let you know how it is on friday. Hopefully:pray:

Thanks:doorag:

Spyderless No More

Got my Spyder back today. :2excited:
Runs great. Steering is easier. Seems like you can actually lean at turns instead of forcing the turn. :dontknow: Make sense?

Even though it took so long to figure out the problem, I'm very happy with the repair and the staff. Both Appletonpowersports and BRP. The fact that they gave me a rental for a few days was beyond awesome.

Attached is the repair "bill". Thankfully it was under warranty.

. . . . and glad it was all under warranty.

Thanks for posting all the info. It is always good to know what to look ( or listen ) out for.

Also, given what you wrote, I would agree - sounds like your dealership really came through for you, and BRP, too.

Glad it worked out in the long run for you. Man-oh-man, I don't know if I will be able to afford these kind of repair bills when my warranty runs out. :yikes: I could almost get a Tata Nano for that bill! :roflblack:

LOL @ $150 oil change. You haven't seen nothing yet. Everything about the Spyder spells $$$ for dealers. Better learn all you can about DIY unless you got money to burn. BRP targeted the boomers with Spyder for a very specific reason .... they got money and they are old enough not wanting to get their hands dirty. Tada ... an instant cash machine is born.
