SpyderGirl thermostat question..

I went back and found your thread regarding your overheat problem. I thought that you had posted pics. of where the thermostat and the connector were. I couldn't find them or am I mistaken that there were pics. posted.

I ask b/c I am now looking for a leak and haven't gotten to taking off all the req'd panels as yet.

Don't if this will help, I have an 08 it started to leak antifreeze the first few days. I went in through the opening lower right side panel,and with a screwdriver tighten the hose clamp that had a worm clamp. Added a little
pepper hasn't leaked in over two 1/2 years.

Thanks- I'll first look for any hose clamps that can be tightened. I found antifreeze on the right hand side of the 'spyderpops' scoop when viewed facing the spyder. At first (before I saw it on the scoop) I thought it was gas leaking from the vent hose since the spot on the floor was close to directly beneath it; but, then I looked underneath the spyder and saw the green.

For some reason :dontknow: there was only one worm type clamp on my Spyders hose's and that was the one that was leaking.
Sounds like yours is leaking from the same spot??opcorn:

This isn't something you can troubleshoot over the Internet. You will need to pull the panels, and observe and feel around for the source. Ask SpyderGirl how far she had to chase hers. Where they come out is not necessarily where they originate. The thermostat is a black plastic device in the lower part of the radiator hose, near the radiator. The connector is a plastic block thingy at the other end of the radiator hose, near the engine. In addition you have to check the other hoses, the hose clamps, the coolant tank cap (make sure it is fully seated instead of at the first notch), and the coolant tank.

Pulled the panels and found the leak. It was where boborgera said his was. Of course I only drove the spyder around for 15 mins. and checked the connection and it was dry.

Sorry, I just found this post.

First I checked the coolant bottle, then the hoses connected to the bottle. Then I moved down to the thermostat and the hoses connected there. Then I pulled the airbox out and checked the connector. I had a hairline crack along the bottom side of the connector. I replaced that as well as the thermostat and all the hose clamps and it was fixed. Cost me about $40 and it was pretty easy (and messy) to do.
