• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyderfest or Bust (FROM THE EAST COAST)

OK, I have 2 google maps now. One map is a 2 day option with day one everyone meeting in Charleston, WV (Time to there varies) and then doing about 8-10 hours on day 2 to Springfield.

The second map is a 3 day option and I picked Louisville Kentucky as the stop for day two. So the three day option would be day 1 to Morgantown, WV (Time to there varies) and day 2 is about 6-7 hours to Louisville Kentucky, and then about 6-7 hours day 3 to Springfield, MO.

I am more in favor of the 3 day option and sleeping by the pool on Tuesday
:yikes:

I like both, prefer the three-day option with a Sunday departure

Question:
Not having figured out the exact Route; can you tell us which Motels are closest to the roads that we will be on?
Thanks!

I will be leaving from the Little Rock Ar. area on that tuesday about 8 A.M. for a presumed 2 P.M. arrival at the hotel. ( i might need a nap after that long ride) :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

So here is the route I would like to take, fully realizing this may not be feasible for those coming from the Northeastern states. I would like to take I81S though the George Washington and Jefferson National Forest to I64W into West Virginia. I have traveled I76 and I70 many times by vehicle and it is well resourced, but BORING! :gaah::rolleyes:

Just my opinion. Seems like Bob D has done this a few times so I'm interested to hear his thoughts.
For those wanting to share route suggestions, it's easy to do with Google Maps. Plan the route and simply copy the URL ...like this.

I'm going to try and find a way to do a shareable map of some sort and layout a generic route showing the initial plan. Might be useful for people to see whether or not they could join up. I'll try no plot different waypoints as people post to the thread. I'm hoping some type of google map will work, but if anyone has a different thought on something they have used in the past, please shoot it out here.

You can go to a web site, http://www.ridewithgps.com, and open a free account. I use it all the time to make both Spyder and bicycle routes. It's based on Google Maps. You can share routes and export them for upload into your gps (I use Garmin Basecamp to do that because I'm a slow learner creating routes on Basecamp). OP can sign up for free, download your maps and edit them to suit their needs.

I like the 3 day route. Have Best Western for the 27th-the first of May. Have planned for a 2 day trip right now. Will keep an eye on this thread for sure. Tom :spyder:

Trip planning...

I'll join you guys in Springfield for the ride to Spyderfest......Unless you want to meet in Great Falls, Montana first and then ride to Spyderfest ..... Just funning you all....

This reminds me of the group ride to Spyderfest 2013, which was the first year for Springfield. The group started out from NJ/NY and picked up riders along the way. I think there was about 25 riders by the time they arrived in Springfield.

Pack your raingear they encountered quite a bit a rain along the way.

I didn't ride with this group but rode with some first time riders to Spyderfest from MD and VA and we encountered rain also.

I'm all for doing it in three days. But if we do it in 3, I really vote for an alternate route. I'm driving the PA-OH-IN route now and it is BORING!
When mike( Blueknight911) and I went to Spyderfest in 2013,2014 we went PA-OH-IN and it was boring. Deanna

There is a lot of time between now and then, but I would like to leave Sunday, meet up with you guys in Morgantown, WV on Sunday afternoon and go from there with an arrival on Tuesday.

Three day option

For those interested so far, it appears the three day trek is the one we are leaning towards?

I'd like to get my time off from work situated as early as I can and start exploring hotel options for us along the way.

Leaving Sunday

Thanks for the map links. They even open on the iPhone and still show the separate starting locations and stops. I have reservation at Coach House starting the 26th. I am all for the 3-Day, but that means I will need to leave Sunday. I think there are a few others (Bob D that I know of) that have reservations for the 26th. Would leaving Sunday be feasible for you as well?

My reservation starts on Tuesday the 26th. Leaving Sunday morning and arriving Tuesday evening would be my preference. But if the rest of the group would rather leave Monday and do it in two days I will go along with it.

That works for me

I would be fine to leave on Sunday. I also looked a bit more at the 3 day map. It presently has us doing Morgantown, WV to Louisville, KY to Springfield, MO. The second and third legs are approximately 6 hour and 7 hour respectively. If we were to make the day two stop Lexington, KY instead of Louisville we could swing through two national forests as part of the route and only add one hour to each day. Here is the map of that route for your enjoyment.
