• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyderfest 2016 at The Best Western Coach House (official Thread)

Bob and I were discussing routes; originally we thought about going straight across PA on I80 and stopping the first night in Ohio. We could def meet up with people coming down from further north.

We also discussed taking the southern route across Tennessee; I took that route last year coming home and agree there are some very pretty areas. Not sure about going through Nashville though; there was a lot of construction there May 2015 and from the looks of it it was questionable whether they'd be done by May 2016.

I'm real flexible.

I'm not set on going through Nashville either. That's just the way Google showed. I am open to other routes along I-40. This will be my first long distance trip so I am in "student" mode for this. I do know that the trip south through VA and eastern TN is some beautiful traveling with great places to stop along the way.

Either way, I will tag along on the route most traveled by other Ryder's. I won't be a nuisance, but will be more comfortable being with other seasoned Ryders.

There's always Strength and Safety in Numbers... nojoke
We don't want anybody making a solo trip of this length, if it can be helped!

Start a new thread?

I don't know if it would be worthwhile starting a new thread for this or not, possibly "From the Northeast to Spyderfest"

Anyway, I did some google map scenarios and here is the breakdown so far for me. I'm leaving from Rochester and there are presently three routes I have heard mentioned.

1. From Rochester, NY to Columbus, OH overnight, then to Springfield on second day. This route is 15 hours 9 minutes and 1025 miles and mostly expressway I imagine.

2. From Rochester, NY to the Washington,PA area (Route 70/79 Interchange best I can tell from Google) then to Columbus, OH overnight, then to Springfield the second day. This route is 16 hours 27 minutes and 1094 miles and mostly expressway, but less than above, I imagine.

3. From Rochester, NY through Morgantown, WV area stay overnight somewhere near Charleston, WV or so, then second day to Springfield. This route is 18 hours 23 min and 1231 miles. I don't know what type of scenery this would be and the miles listed do not plan to head south to Tennessee so that would also add to the distance.

I am open to any suggestions, and am leaning towards a day earlier for traveling. I think I'd like to leave my place Monday for a Tuesday arrival in Springfield regardless of the route.

I think that as the time for travel shrinks a bit more; we will put together a thread in the "Rides & Events" Section.

Bear in mind brentc that your talking about 8 to 9 hours in the saddle each day, plus time to stop for gas, bio breaks, etc.

Not sure how much long-distance riding you've done but that's a lot. I did two days out last year (NJ to eastern KY, eastern KY to Springfield) and I was wiped by the time I got there.

Took three days going home and it was much easier to handle.

When I did it; we ran two 600 mile days, each way... You can figure about 14 hours of total time in and around the bike each of those days...
With fuel stops every 90 miles or so (for the 998s); you could shorten the days by making your food and fuel stops as efficient as possible...
At one point, we had 23 bikes in our convoy; that's a lot of cats to herd down the road...

RIDE TO SPYDERFEST

My riding buddy and I are 35mi south of Columbus Oh. we are leaving Tuesday morn. will hit rt70 west of Columbus, maybe we can hook up with some of you eastern riders coming through the Buckeye state..

I have a couple of first timer questions. How much does it cost to sign up for the rally? What do you get for it? Do you need to sign up to get in the vendor areas?

I think it was $40 last year. A goodie bag when you get there. You get a hooded sweatshirt. Heavy one at that. And you get fed a BBQ. BRP Demo Fleet. Several events, One of the best run private rallies you will ever attend. Tom :spyder:
