• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder Wouldn't start

Today, another hot one. After getting home from work the Spyder just hit six bars, as I pulled into the driveway. I turned off the Spyder and talked to a neighbor for about 20 minutes. As I got back on my Spyder I went to start it, and Nothing. There was power, the guages engauged, the cluster, clustered, the lights lighted. I hit the mode button, then the start button, and got nothing.

After getting nothing, it started all over again. There was power, the guages engauged, the cluster, clustered, the lights lighted.

I reseated the Relays, and....There was power, the guages engauged, the cluster, clustered, the lights lighted. I hit the mode button, then the start button, and got nothing.


I pushed the Spyder into the Garage. It sat for about Half an hour. Then, after checking all the fuses, checking the Battery connections reseating the Ralays. I tought I woud try again. and.....There was power, the guages engauged, the cluster, clustered, the lights lighted. I hit the mode button, then the start button. Spyder strated up like there was never anything wrong with it.

I'm guessing it was just to hot, and didn't want to run. Seems fine now....

6 Bars isn't all that hot but does sound like something heat related.

I've heard Lamont say that sometimes it helps to take the ignition key out, walk away from the Spyder (with the key) and then try it again. Has something to do with the chip/security reset.

Not sure it would be effective in your situation but couldn't hurt.

I just keep storing up all these various tricks that I hear about in case I ever have an issue. I'm hoping I never do but if it happens I will try to pull one of Lamont's little rabbits out of my hat to get going again.
 
I had the same problem a few weeks ago. I found that if you move the bike in third gear (make sure the key is turned OFF) and pop the clutch it fixed the problem. This turns the engine and gear box over a little bit. I think it may be related to the GPS. Its like the bike thinks its still in gear.

And in my case it was definitly NOT the kill switch, That was the first thing I checked and rerchecked

Did this in rush hour traffic on the 210 heading out of LA this summer. I was in the HOV lane. I went to adjust my mirror and somehow hit my kill switch.

I didn't realize it and I instantly thought of all the bad news stories I'd heard here.

I was by myself and wondering what I was going to do while I tried to dodge traffic and get over the 4 or 5 lanes to the right shoulder with no power and the clutch pulled in.

I tried to start the Spyder on the shoulder with the expected results (considereing my kill switch was activated). Once I calmed down and engaged brain I started checking off possibilities and discovered the kill switch.

Man was I relieved! Another disaster averted!
 
parking se5 in gear and the not stepping on brake to start does the same thing. First thought is always :shocked: oh no now what am I going to do

So, after the bike cooled off for about 1.5 hours. I decided to go for a test ride. It started without incident. I did a 100 mille run. Everthing was fine. Of course it was much cooler. Bike never went over 5 bars.

Well, I've done the kill switch, not stepping on the brake a couple of times. Now, I'm dialed in I think!
