• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

spyder will not start

Aussie spyder

New member
my 2011 RS spyder wil not start.i just bought the spyder with 2500 km on the clock from interstate (Western Australia)it was transported by truck to my house.when it was in my garage it started without any problems.when I wanted to take it for a ride it was inpossible to start .i transported it to the dealer end they found that the plugs where fould up and new plugs instalded at a cost of Aust $263.00.plugs are not under warranty,i rode the spyder back to my house last Wednesday without any problems. this morning (fryday)I planned to go for a long ride.i was not able to start the spyder.lights are on at the dash.the battery has been tested and is o.k.the fuelpump works o.k but the starter motor is not coming in.the fuel pump and the starting motor are on the same fuse so why is it not working?i did have the same problem last year with my 2008 RS.i would transport the spyder to the dealer and they would ring me after a few day's and told me that every time they try to start the spyder there was no problem.i would pick up the spyder go fore a few rides and than the problem would start again, this would last for 4 to5 weeks and from then on it was o.k.they asked me to show them how I started the spyder,so they where sure that I was doing the wright thing.the dealer can only take action when the spyder wil not start so it is a mystery to me.i hope your good people are able to help me. Greetings and thanks. Henk

Hi there sorry to hear of your troubles you could have a problem with the kill switch red switch on right bar or the sequence of mode and start function with the start button.
First i would check the ground under the seat to make sure it is tight and battery connections are clean and secure.
Is your spyder a SM5 if so maybe you have to be in nutral with the E brake engaged good luck hope all works out for you take care Mike.

I don't know if your Spyder is an AUTO, You don't say, But if it is/???
Are you stepping ''firmly'' on the brake pedal??

Battery fully charged, kill switch, mode switch, and stepping fully on the brake for an SE5 are all possibilities.

The mention that the dealer can start it every time MIGHT be a clue that you are doing something wrong.

Bummer..!!

Are your rydes back from the dealer direct no stops where you shut down and re start..? Checking all the battery connections, ground connections is a good start. If they can start it and they watch you start it the start up procedure seems right. The other question is: does it crank and not start or do you push the button and nothing happens.. Not much help but need more info... :dontknow:

ever thing they said mod button ,kill button on the start side ,foot on the brakes and emerghence brake set, battery cables tight the ones on the battery, and alwas keep a battery maintaner on it at all times your not riding it.make sure all the relays are good.thats all i got hope it helps.:chat:

spyder wil not start

my spyder is a SM5 not auto.when i left the dealer I made 2 stops and I did not have any trouble to start the spyder.i was stopt for at least 10 min.i checked the battery connections and the earth lead under the seat.i tried to start the spyder in the last couple of day's and have 50% result.if I can not start the spyder I can hear the fuel pump running and the "read the safety card" message comes on.i use the M button on the handle bar only, and never use the cut off switch on the handle bar to turn of. when I can hear the fuel pump running the starting motor will not cut in, so the engine will not turn over.that is all the info I can provide. Greetings Henk

Check your battery voltage with a multimeter. Low battery voltage can work the fuel pump and display, but not the starter. If it is doing nothing, not even clicking, and the battery voltage is up (at least 12.7 volts after sitting a few hours following charging and at least 10.0 volts while ctranking...or trying), then the starter relay is suspect.
