Spyder vibration

I recently purchased my first Spyder after drooling for 8 years and have had vibration problems from day one. Usually around 56 mph and again at about 75 mph. The dealer had the "ace" spyder repairman ride it and he in fact did say there was a problem. They balanced the wheels, traded wheels from another and did it a second time and basically told me it was fixed and to go away. There is still a vibration that is bad enough that I can't tell what is behind me when I look in the mirror. I would like to hear from other riders if they have had a similar problem or should I just let it go and try to enjoy the ride. I am getting used to it --but it's still there. l_thanks

Normally people experience a vibration coming from the belt, and it's usually around the speeds you refer to, but I've never heard anyone say it was as bad as you describe. It's worth looking into your belt tension. Do a search with the search engine (upper right corner) and search "belt tension". But, you may have an alignment issue, a bad tire, etc... Have you had the tires balanced?

Yes I have had the tire's balanced, and the tires taken off Spyders that I have driven twice and I still have a vibration. I asked if I could be an alignment problem and they say couldn't be an alignment problem. I will have to try to call Can Am and see what they have to say. I keep telling them that something that costs as much as this does should not vibrate like it does.

I had the same problem but not as bad. Took my Spyder to the dealer and they said that it will do that at certain RPMs if the belt is loose so they checked it and in fact was loose they said, but the problem still seems to be there a bit. But as a side note I have herd of people getting belt tensioners put on but don't now to much about it.

If your vibrations are as bad as you describe .... an alignment issue would have to be really, really off to cause this ......( not likely ) .... and they are really sure a High speed spin balance proved the tires/wheels are balanced ..... then it's the tires ...and if they are KENDA's I'm not surprised ....this occurs a lot with Kenda's.............But I think it should have shown up on the Balance Machine !!!! ........... spyder vibration

I thank you all for your help. My Spyder is a 2016 RT Limited. The belt has never been adjusted and the tires are correct. No alignment has never been done because as I was told they are laser aligned { ooh wow} and they don't go out of alignment when the bike is this new. I've had two new sets of tires and wheels installed and still have vibration. I got ahold of BRP and was told someone would contact me today so we'll see. Thanks again fellas for the assistance. I do appreciate it. ___Jim Dible

My guess is you are feeling the belt vibration, or harmonic resonance. We can move the speed at which it occurs, but never completely make it go away. I've experienced a number of new units that it is pretty bad on, so I would suggest having the belt tension checked. Many times as the belt stretches slightly with more miles the vibration lessens significantly. There is also a chance the belt sprocket on the rear wheel is not perfectly centered, but that should not have happened on a 2016, but it did happen on some earlier units.

The OEM tires are very suspect as well, even if you tried a set from another unit I would not rule it out. But a good tech should be able to discern between tire balance and belt harmonics. Should. I'm going to go with slightly looser on the belt, should reduce it enough to make it a non issue. Good luck!

Will keep watching this one. All suggestions above are good--including ditching the dealer. Work through the list and I am guessing you will hit the jackpot.

I have had a 2013 RT, a 2014 RT, and now a 2015 F3S, all of them have a vibration at the mentioned Speed so bad it was ruining my riding experience. Captain Jim is smooth SPYDER belt tensioner's I have taken 95% of the vibration out and made it feel like a different machine contact Captain Jim and he can completely change what you are feeling Everyone told me that what I was feeling was normal for the spider and get used to it and I felt that was a bunch of bull and it was

As PMK says, tell your dealer's tech to FIND the technical service bulletin related to belt vibration and read and pay attention to it. Belt vibrations may not be eliminated entirely, but there are actions he can take, per BRP instructions, to mitigate it.

Then consider buying and installing Jim's SmoothSpyder belt tensioner. Belt vibration is an inherent issue with the long Spyder belt but you have to take definitive action to mitigate it.

And as has been suggested, do a search for "belt tension". You'll find and read posts about it until your eyes glaze over!

VIBRATION

People ...... from OP's post there is no way in H*LL the BELT can cause enough vibration to BLUR what He see's in the mirror's. My advice is He needs to find some one with a Spyder that will let Him drive it, preferably if it has CAR tires on it, so He can see if it's the Spyder or Him............Sorry but IMHO there are far to many dealers who either Lie or are just plain in-competent ......or BOTH ...............Mike :thumbup:

If there was that much vibration in the belt then the guy working on the bike should be fired..Let see what BRP can do for you.. Your bike should run smooth.
You may feel some vibration but barely noticeable.

Hang in there the Spyder is one smooth bike if set up correctly

I missed the bit about mirror vibration.

jdgbwg, check and see if there is a pebble stuck in the rear or front sprocket teeth. I had that happen once. Mirrors vibrated badly and swapping the tires did not solve the problem. Clearing the pebble out of the rear sprocket calmed things down nicely!

Hi jdgbwg,
