• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder trouble! VSS fault!

This morning on my way to work, I was crossing a set of double railroad tracks and my Spyder completely shutdown! I cross these tracks on a regular basis and can't figure out what happened. I slowed down like I normally do, pulled in the clutch and then complete silence as I coasted across the tracks in the dark with no lights, nothing!

I turned the key off, back on and got a VSS fault. It wouldn't start. I turned it back off and waited to figure out what I was going to do at 5:30 in the morning.

After several minutes I tried it again. It started up and I continued uneventfully the rest of the way to work.

Anyone have any ideas of what might have caused it?

When I had my first problem back in November, the techs said I was lucky that mine kept running. Apparently, those with a problem similar to mine were experiencing the same shut down you did. In the T/S code section of the manual, it says the spyder may experience glitches and to turn off the machine for a couple minutes and turn it back, a glitch should go away like yours did, but can be read by the dealer since it's logged and no longer a current fault.
By the way...my wife and kids are are stopping by Roswell with the granparents to see some other family members...Anything you Romulans want to say to the aliens?

You shook the relay loose. Take it out and put back in.

I wonder if these relays should be taken out and put back in occasionally to make sure the contacts don't corrode and the relays remain tightly seated. I guess I need to make sure I go slower over rough railroad crossings!

You could put a slight twist to the prongs so that they stay in better. I plan on adding a piece of foam to the inside of the cover to keep pressure on all the fuses and relays.

Are we sure these bikes aren't made by Harley? Sounds like you might have a loose ground somewhere.

My Harley's didn't give me half the trouble that my Spyder has, the reliability issues with Harley died a long time ago.

As for the Spyder and the VSS if it's not the relays than check your battery. I got the VSS fault along with numerous other faults when my battery was corroded and I also have had a cable come loose as well.

A dab of silicone at the juction of the relay and box will keep them in place, and is easily broken if you need to remove the relays.
