Spyder traded in at HD dealer

A guy in the Bible study works at the local HD dealership. He said a blue '12 RT was traded in there for an Ultra. I'll go down there tomorrow and look at it. I wonder if they know how to tell a prospect how to ryde it and all.

Not likely...

My wild guess is that whoever owned it tried to ride it in 5th gear at 3000 rpm's or less the entire time they owned it and complained about the power to all their friends. :roflblack:

Buyer beware to the new owner if that is true. :yikes:

Get a good deal

I have a friend who bought a RT at our local Harley dealer. Before her test ryde, she had to show the salesperson how to start it. She got a great deal on a great bike!

Calling around..!!

they will check with the Can Am dealers with HD's to trade and get out from under it..!! :roflblack:

I used to ride Harley's and know most of the folks at the local Harley Shop. They actually called me to help them with a sale of a '08 RS that they took on trade. It was a pretty nice Spyder in great condition with low miles. The sale went through and I got a $300 gift card for clothing etc. I used it for Christmas gifts for my friends in my Motorcycle Club who have Harley's.

Soooo... what is that Spyder now?
A Jester in the King's court?
OR...
A Wolf hiding in with the Sheep?
:dontknow::roflblack:

Saw two Spyder RT's at a non-spyder dealer, and I thought I would ask a few questions. The first was, how do you start this? They had to get a mechanic from the back to show them. Secondly, do you do the maintenance here? Again, after calling the mechanic, he said even though he has not worked on one, a motorcycle is a motorcycle. Finally I asked about a maintenance package and the answer was a 3 year routine maintenance agreement for $5000.00. I walked out shaking my head and told my dealer about this. About a month later one had sold and the other disappeared. OOPS

Here in Central Maine, North Country is both a Spyder and Harley dealer. He has more Harleys on the floor but a lot of Spyders on the floor and outside.

We both know the guy who bought one of these.... I spoke with him at the last PGR mission I saw him at.. His :ani29: was in the shop for a clutch rebuild. Coming from a Harley, he was keeping the RPM's too low, and since the dealer he bough from had no knowledge, nor did they have BUDS, he had to take it up the road. Found out that it was behind in programming updates - including the transmission one.

Anyhow, he has shifted his business to the new dealer, and won't go to those other yahoos again...

I've been trying to get him to look / join up here...

I know this HD dealer has sold at least 1 other Spyder taken in trade before. They also only service the brands they sell new (HD, Suzuki, Kawasaki). They are a pretty good shop, and know their limitations.

But I am thinking maybe I can offer some tips, like shifting RPMs etc. If nothing else, I'll try to get them to let the buyer know about SpyderLovers.

I "love" these "knowledgeable" salesman. I was a multi brand/non Spyder dealership. They had RS, "year unknown" for sale at darn near a new price. He was talking to a person, saying the RS was okay for a around bike, but did like not going long distance or fast. It should also be kept below 4000 RPM for best performance. I asked then why the 9000 on the tech. The salesman replied, no motorcycle should ever operated faster then 1/3 of the tach or speedometer. I just told the person looking, If you want to talk about Spyders, I will stop down the street and I left.
He and and a female did come down and stop. We talked. they seemed interested. I have no idea if they got one or not.

There is an "11 RS with 4,000 miles on it at a Harley dealer near here. I believe they're asking $16,000. for it.

'08 wanted $16K

My local Harley dealership wanted to sell my hubby a 2008 RS for $16k. No way! Months later, they are still sitting on it. Meanwhile, my hubby got a 2013 ST Limited - much better!

Wow! I believe that unit sold new for $16,999 with SM5. Add $1,500 for SE5. No wonder they did not move it very quickly.

I went to see the RT they had taking in trade at the local HD dealer. It's a blue 2012 SE5 with 1,985 miles. They are asking $24,900, which IMHO is kinda steep, over $7k more than I paid for my '11 a year ago.

It doesn't have a bump skid or any other farkles I could see, but it did have some highway pegs. Also some spider emblems on the frunk and rear trunk. They said it was an RT-S, but it doesn't have the rear shock or fog light controls like mine.

I gave them my name and number and SpyderLovers.com, and said I'd like to meet whoever buys it, or at least have them join this site. I also said to call me if I could offer any information about it to a prospect.

Maybe the high mark up has to do with the fact that everything there is marked up $7,000 or so from what its supposed to be.

I ran into this when I looked at a tri glide when they first came out. MSRP on the HD site was $28,000 & change for the deluxe version. I looked at a base version in basic black. The dealer was asking $35,000. I asked why the difference. Shipping and handling was the answer.

I did not buy for that, and other reasons. My purchase was a premier edition :spyder2: RT.

It looks to be a RT A&C version. The black trim in the air intake and the lack of chrome on the rear trunk lid is a clue

I was thinking that, too. But his inventory info sheet said RTS. I thought all RTS's had the rear shock adjustment rocker switch, but wasn't sure.

He said the MSRP on it as new would be $25,900 or so. I think they're trying to price it off the 'new' price since it has such low miles. IMHO it's still at least $5k too high. My '11 RTS, last year, was at a HD dealer, priced at $!8,500 & I got it for $17,500.

If they have a prospect call me, should I tell them that?

Local dealer took a HD ultra or a screaming something or other in as trade in value on a 2011 RTL and still has it.

One of our local riders wanted to get off a Susie Boulevard found a 2013 RTL on the Internet and grabbed it for around $20,000 with less then 500 miles on it. Some attorney bought it for his wife and she tried it and did not like it.

So there are deals out there to be had if you know how to find them an get lucky enough to be there at the right time!
