• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I am looking to buy a used spyder and i was wondering wich year is the best. I read On the forum that 2012 seems to be a good one but what about 2010,2011.

:welcome:
If you're looking at RTs; 2012 is the most refined year of the 998 versions...
2010 had very soft front springs; the handling was pretty mushy, and a lot of them got new shocks pretty quick.
It was also the first year of the "throttle by wire" electronic throttle control system...
There were issues with the throttle bodies, and throttle position sensors...
These issues were addressed in the 2011 model year, but it took until 2012, for them to sort all of it out...
The 2013s... massive issues with heat. If you buy one; check to see what has been done to alleviate the heat issues...
They do have a lot going for them; improved brakes, new front suspension... Just be careful!

Unless you can find a used 2014 (and I just saw one in a post here today, but I don't recall what it was titled), the 2012's have the best rep. I don't think you'll find much disagreement with that assessment.

I totally agree. A used 14' if you can find one or a 12' would be ideal. However, I wouldn't shy away from a very well sorted out 10'-11' either.

2011

I had a 2011 RT Limited until today and I traded it for a 2014 RT Limited. I loved my 2011 and put about 12,000 miles on. I tricked it out pretty nice and spent close to $4,000 in bling and things. Time to trick out the 2014. That's have the fun of owning one. The other half is riding it.

The advice about 2012 is pretty much on. I put 35,000 miles on my 2010, have 16,000 miles on the 2011 and almost 10,000 miles on my 2014. Did not have a 2012 or a 2013. I would say to stay away from the 2013. They do not have the best rep.

I agree that any of the 10s, 11s, or 12s would be good, with the 12s being the best of the 990's. There are still some NEW 12s out there (look at the Seattle Craigslist), but if you can find one, you can get a new base 14 RT for less... and there's no decision there.

Out here a 10 with 40K on the clock is $14000 - a NEW 12 is $18000 - and a 14 is $18500

Good luck with your search!
