There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Spyder RT 2011 - Fuel Gauge

I don't Know

WOW, I never really pay any attention to it. I don't know if it bounces or not. I only look at it when still, it don't bounce then. Like some others I go by mileage.

I bought my RT in April '11. The gauge has never bounced excessively, but it's never been all that accurate either. Fortunately (or not) my bladder has a much smaller capacity, so frequent stops are required anyway.

Hi, my name is Shannon and I'm new to the site but wanted to respond. I bought a 2008 Spyder and had it for 3 years and never had a problem with the fuel guage. I then sold that and purchased a 2011 RTS in April. My fuel guage was fine until December, 2011. Now the darn thing jumps from full to quarter tank. I am of course, getting the run around from the dealer who's saying, "their all like that". No, I beg to differ. For 7 months it worked perfect. What could have changed? Can Am knows they have a problem with these fuel guages and us as customers spent a LOT of money on their product. The least they can do is step up and fix our problems! pheeew, I feel better now!
I went to Central Fla. Powersports in Kissimmee for my 24,000 mile service. When I picked up my Spyder I noticed on the service order that they had replaced my fuel gage. I asked the service writer about this and he said they noticed it bouncing on the test ride so they replaced it! I had just been waitng for 130-140 miles to gas up and just using the gage as general reference. I have been having it serviced at another deaaler and they had not done anything about it. Just go to show you all dealers are not the same.

There is a service bulletin on this instructing service centers to replace the gauge if the customer complains about it

Mine didnt bouce at first either, but started doing so recently

just took my sypder in to the shop and i had the gauges diconnected i'm lovin it now. no more bouncing gauge and i had more fuel then i thought also. this is a easy fix even for the non mech can do this after i saw it done to mine heres what u got to do take the 4 screws out and pull the wires off of both gauges and whamo there on the computer screen just like that. i left the fueland temp gauge there until i can get a oil temp and a volt meter in place of those. next question is where can i find these 2 gauges? at a reasonable cost dealership wanted 150 for oil gauge and they didnt have a volt can anyone steer me in the right direction for these?..

thanks

just google it. There are tons to choose from.
These guys seem to have a good selection though.

Thinking of getting this one myself http://prosportgauges.com/evo-White-Green-Digital-Display-electrical-Volt-.aspx

Gas

MY 2011 :spyder2:gauge did not flux gut I had the dealer disconnect fuel and temp so that they are on the digital display.

More gauge problems

Friday of last week I took my 2011 RT-S SE5 in for a gas gauge replacement as it was flipping all over the place and I never knew how much gas was in the tank. I also asked that they bleed the brake lines as they felt "mushy".

10 minutes into my trip home I notice the new gas gauge is over 1/4" over the Full area on gauge #2. I was going to turn around when the rain started really coming down. On Sunday I drove about 35-40 miles and sure enough the gauge hasn't gone down at all. As I pull into my garage, the "check engine" came on! just keeps getting better.

Today, Monday March 12, 2012 I went back to the dealership to have the check engine checked and the gas light icon looked at as it decided to come on and stay on all the way to the dealership. I originally was going to have the Seal Floorboards DLX installed as well as a Two Brothers slip on M-5 Black carbon fiber exhaust installed and also to show them the gas gauge. Of course they didn't have another one in the shop and had to order it. I had to remind them AGAIN to hook the computer up to check the alert for check engine. According to their computer it never came on........uh huh.

After quite the wait, the service tech said I was ready to go...... i am rather despondent at this point but when I turn the key on the bike, some gauges flicker just a bit and with me off the bike the RPM dial swings up to 6,000 RPMs and stuck. The bike was on idle. For the 5th time I call the tech back out. So right now only the center section of gauges are working. OH did I mention the oil light came on and stayed on for a moment or so????

Back to the dealership again tomorrow and my question will be WTF?????

2012

Since this topic came up I started looking at my gas gauge and my gauge don't bounce it is rock solid. My RTS SE5 is #301 for 2012 maybe they fixed it.

ok i got the volt meter and oil pressure gauge in the mail today the question i'm getting from the dealerships is where does the oil pressure sensor hook into and does something have to be modified to make it work and also how much time is needed to put this gauge in is hard, easy? any input anyone?

thanks

Gauges

I have not seen the gauge bounce but I have had both gauges disconnected. So they are how dispalyed on the digital.
Replaced gas with a volt gauge and water with a cup holder.

Here is a fairly good link to the info you are looking for. http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...e-Gauge-Installation&highlight=pressure+gauge

The only modification required is the connection of the oil pressure sending unit between the block and your existing oil pressure sensor. Pay special attention for the need to purchase a 10mm male to 1/8 NPT female adapter to be able to properly connect your sending unit to the block.

If you are absolutely clear on what needs to be done (panel removal. gauge wiring, sending unit installation) then I would classify this as a moderately easy install. Count on a few hours to be on the safe side in your time estimates.

My MPG varies from 23 in town (winter) to 32 on the hiway (summer). I keep an eye on milage on long trips, on my guage when I am doing a lot of short trips. My gas warning light came on last night with one bar still showing and the fill up took 4.7 gallons. (US). That worked out to 27 MPG which was mix of town and highway. Techically I could have gone about 30 miles more.

My 2011 gauge fluctuated too much so I took it out and defaulted to the bar graph then filled the hole with a radar detector. I replaced the water temp with a volt meter. If you remove one then the other also defaults to the bar graph, there is a way round this if you like keeping the temperature gauge. The bar graph is no better for accuracy but does not fluctuate like the meter did.

Just adding my experience here.

We have a 2011 RT Limited and sometime after the last oil change, the gas gauge needle started bouncing like a teeter-totter. Last week I took it to the dealer. My dealer has ordered the appropriate part/fix (I'm thinking it's a new gauge) and when it comes in, we'll get it swapped out.

just disconnect the fuel-water gauge and get something more useful the on board computer much more accurate then the analog gauge i got oil pressure and volt to replace mine cost 145 w/shipping displays red at day and blue at night i hope according to paperwork havent got them in yet. waiting on a part needed for oil gauge since bike is metric and gauge is u.s. need a adapter so i can have both sensor. from what i read and have been told from here on ths site 10mm will fit into a 1/8npt connection will keep fingers crossed and hope for no leaks once done.

10 mm may fit into a 1/8" tee, but it won't seal well. A 1/8" nipple will not fit into the crankcase without damaging it.
