• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder malfunction

I had a problem on the way home from Sypder on the Bayou. It was a great event! About 100 miles from home(Shreveport) I pulled into a Burger King for a break and had a problem with my F3s with SE6. I stopped, killed the engine, pressed the parking break and turned off the key. At that point I got the beeping indicating my break wasn't set so I turned on the key and tried it again and the parking break would not engage. The byke was in nuetral because it rolled easily but the N was not lit on the digital display. I restarted the motor and attempted to put my spyder in gear but nothing. That's when I saw "check engine" displayed on the dash but no other warning indicators. I looked for problems, no leaking fluid visible and oil was full. I restarted engine with same result but this time I gave it a little throttle and it got no response. After rechecking everything I called for roadside assistance. While waiting to finalize a pick up (about 30 min.) I turned on the key again and hit the parking break and it engaged. I started it and it went into first gear so I took a turn around the parking lot with no problem and the display no longer read "check engine". I called and cancelled the tow and rode the 100 miles home without a problem. Does anyone have an idea what the problem could have been.

YOUR ISSUE

Any number of things......I have had this happen on occasion.....with the same end result you did.......and the cause wasn't traceable...........BRP has piggy-backed it's systems to the point where pin-pointing a problem becomes almost impossible even with the help of B.U.D.S. ....compounding this is the more complicated you make the system ( :yikes: BRP ) the easier it is for very minor hiccups, can freak the various computers out. Most of the time removing the KEY and letting a re-boot take place, can clear most problems ( at we have that )........BUDS might be able to retrieve what happened if you have a savvy Tech at your dealership.........Mike :bbq:

Thanks for the reply. I felt like it might have been just a hiccup but I wanted a more experienced opinion. Thanks again.

It's amazing what we're willing to put up with from these machines. When's the last time your car or truck acted like this?

I have found.....

That the best thing to do in almost every such case is to shut down and give the computers time to reset. This may take up to 45min in some models. Then start up as usual and see it the warnings are still present or reoccur. The look for the codes to try and narrow things down. These systems are getting touchier all the time and especially the shifting sensors...:gaah:

when's the last time you had as much fun driving your car or truck as you have on your Spyder?

That's my point. We put up with this precisely because it's fun. Although, always wondering if your Spyder is going to let you down while on a trip, especially an extended trip, is definitely not fun.

Did you put HID's headlights on the F3? This mod can sometimes cause software issues. Also, never use the kill switch to turn off your Spyder. Just use the key to turn on the power on and off. I have been told this by several different brands of motorcycle dealers to leave the kill switch to the on position and leave it alone.

My usual response when all turns out well--just the way they are. They are showing us just who is really in charge.

Do I like it? Heck no. I continue to enjoy the :ani29:

How do you pull up codes on F3? What sequence do you have to follow?
I'm not sure about them... :dontknow:
But if it's like the RTs:
Try laying a thumb across the Mode and Set buttons together...
Then, push in the turnsignal switch.

If that doesn't do it: :opps:

I was told....

It was recommended by 2 dealers to always use the kill switch on my '12 RTL. As I remember, it had something to do with it shutting off the fuel in addition to something else I don't remember.... Just passing it along....

The way he turned off his F3 is exactly per BRP F3 user's manual - however I understand where you are coming from having ridden 2 wheeled motorcycles for many years - kill switch was strictly used for emergencies. Even though it is counter to my way of thinking as well, I also have been following BRP's instructions on turning off my F3.

It's interesting you say that because thats what I do but I happen to be reading the manual again and it says:

SE6 Model
1. Shift into neutral.
2. Set the engine stop switch to OFF.
3. Engage the parking brake. Thebrake indicator lamp will flash.
4. Turn the key to OFF.

I can't see a big deal either way, just sayin...

But anyway, I think the real problem is stopping at Burger King. I wouldn't blame mine for freaking out there either. :roflblack:
