Spyder just quit running while riding... Is this an isolated incident?

I am new to this site and to Spyders as well. My wife is interested in purchasing a Spyder so we rented a brand new RT limited for 3 days. On the way back to the rental shop I was riding in stop and go traffic for 30 minutes in 95F temperature. My speed was around 17MPH when the engine quit running. There was no response while trying to restart it while moving. I had enough momentum to make it to the shoulder of the road. After less than 5 minutes on the shoulder, it successfully restarted. My question is, is it a common occurrence, or an isolated incident? There were less than 800 miles on the Spyder when this happened.

That is not a normal thing!! Was it overheating, was there any codes or a check engine light? Was it running low on gas? I would have liked being able to see it!

Wonder if it was vapour lock where it was so hot along with ethanol fuel and no air flow over the fuel system. Not really a fault of the machine in a sense.

On my first long interstate trip on the Canyon I had a similar experience. I was cruising at 75 and was trying to learn the cruise control when the engine quit and the dash lights came on. I also coasted toward the shoulder, noticed that I had hit the kill switch, moved the switch back to on and went about my Merry way. I giggled in my helmet to the next fuel stop where I confessed to my riding buddy.

Tank was 3/4 full, no codes on dashboard or check engine light....engine temp was higher than normal, but not excessively high. My wife reminded me that it happened once before right after filling it up we drove about 100 feet from the pump when it shut off, however that time it started while still rolling.
Is safe to assume this not typical of the Can Am but something with this particular machine?

Did you try to really fill it to the top with gas? That can flood the evap cansiter with gas and cause issues.

I think the issue might be placing your foot on the brake pedal (ridding the brake). If you rest your foot on the brake pedal, it will go into limp mode and may stall. Wait 5 min and it should clear. Your new to spyders and maybe subconsciously have your foot on the brake. I had that issue one time with redlights about ever 50 yards in traffic. Just a thought.

In days of "old" when something like this happened it was often the ignition coil going out. Often after a few minutes of cooling the engine could be restarted and continue to run until the coil reheated to much, repeating the cutting off of the engine. It has been over 20 years since I have seen a coil cause a problem like this, but nothing on a motorcycle. Just a thought.
