• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder Issue

I made mention earlier of a problem I was having with my 2012 Can Am Spyder RT-SE5. In that it has gone to a dark display, can be started, but cannot be shifted into any gear. The idiot lights on both the speedometer and tachometer continuously flash, the tail, head, and fog lights work. Presently the bike is in neutral so it can be manually rolled around the garage. I spoke with one tech on You Tube, who thought it was likely the dash control module. The Spyder has so many modules, I have no idea of what this one particularly does, and if it has failed, how much it would cost to replace.

An update from a comment yesterday from the author; WilderThomas from Spyderlovers chat room:

" TicketBait and others that have been kind to offer a thought. As a last ditch attempt, I rapped a knuckle against the display screen, and everything started working again. Suggesting likely, a loose connection. Early aviators used to do the same thing as part of their preflight checklist, tapping the fuel gauge and others to get them functioning. So I tried doing the same. Fortunately for me, it worked."

So now the mystery has been discovered :dg1: the old knuckle wrap still works!

Reminds of when TV'S and Radios had tubes in them.....tap, slap, or pound

Updated answer to this issue

I take no credit for the outcome I have been told, I am just the messenger from the "chat section " on this forum.

The original poster WilderThomas shared today this in the chat section that very few read:

To Ticketbait. The diagnostic was finally performed on the Spyder, and the culprit was diagnosed once and for all as the "multifunction display". The service department told me that a new such display would be $1065. However, I asked how much for the device and labor with the veteran's discount, and was told, $961.02. Guess I can live with that.

Why I am doing this is when we start a thread, it is extremely important that the op goes back to the thread he creates and give the final answer what ever that may be. Why, so that when others have the same issue,(and utilize the search engine) they will gather more information to assist in accessing the situation. Yes it could of well been a drained battery or this or that. And no, i take no credit for wrapping on the display, I was just quoting what I was told from the OP. Just like now. The issue was a bad display. btw, my 2010 RT had a bad display in 2012, and under warranty with the speedometer at 22K had replaced. No troubles since.

One more thing that is helpful is if when you create a thread, you can apply up to five words you tag to assist the search engine.;)

There was one more thread that was created 3 days before this one that I will link, rather than bring to the forefront on this board

Multifunction Display

Since it is a SE5. It does not matter if it is gear or not. It will still roll around the shop. That is because the clutch is not engaged until the engine gets to 2,000 rpm or above.

Copied from the BRP parts guide. "710003158 Multifunction Speedometer $857.99 USD". You can likely get it cheaper from a online parts discount distributor.

That is just too much money to spend to swap out the part and hope it fixes it. Take it to a dealer and plug it into BUDS. Also you have not ruled out a bad connection to the gauge. Pull the gauge cluster out and inspect the connector.

The service department at the bike shop in Caldwell, did a BUDS diagnostic on the Spyder. And the culprit was, the multifunction display. Their parts department informed me that a new display would be $1065. However, with a veteran's discount, part and labor came to $961.02.

Thank You Everyone for Your Input

Thanks for letting us know what the final outcome is.

Now that the Spyder is rideable, should anyone br riding through Wilder, Caldwell, Nampa, or Boise, please let me know. I'd be happy to meet for coffee, and a bagel if you're in the area.
