• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder in the snow

I put as many snicker bars in the frunk, side storage and trunk as I can.
Then I put the Spyder on trailer & hook it up to the Outback & go looking for some of ya who seem to need some.
HO HO HO
You'll slide your eye out kid.

I love R&R put another dime in the jukebox baby!

On a real note my dealer delivered mine to house on a 3 inch snowy day.
It was **** just getting it down the ramp & 10 yards to my garage. Im talking totally helpless vehicle in snow.
When I was 16 I rode my honda 305 scrambler in all weather. I am no longer 16
So freaking glad we are in Fla 9 mos year

I have ridden in about 6 inches of snow, and no, the Spyder did not do that well in it, but I still am looking forward to riding this year in it if we get some snow in North Kackalakia. There was not a whole lot of traction but that made doing donuts real easy. Just because it aint easy doesn't mean it aint fun.

To snow or not to snow.

It looks like the question about snow tires or chains was a good question. Thank you all for your impute, I do like all the varied replies. I do have a little snow experience just getting caught in it. But I have this project I want to do and I needs to be done in the winter. Hopefully this winter. More about that later but please keep sending your thoughts and ideas on how and what you would do if you were to try and ride (in my case 2013 can am Spyder SE5 limited black currant), I plan on trying to ryde from http://goo.gl/maps/u45YZG5Ffas
This is not the route I will take but depending on what I ran into it is the starting point and ending point.

Wishing you all a very Merry Chirstmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year.

Will be looking very closely at the Goodyear Ultra Crip Ice

Not to sound like a broken record repeating myself, but my experience riding in the snow was such that I doubt I will ever try that again. Even "if" (and that's a big if) you are able to resolve the traction issue, you still have an issue with the front air intakes shoveling up snow and ice and a real risk of damage to the front end. But the traction issue is serious. The way the bike is designed with 3 wheels- single in the back (not a snowmobile track), it is a nightmare on a rutted up snowy, icey road.

Fatcycledady (earlier post) described it perfectly when he wrote: "With the front tires of the Spyder you might be able to get in the ruts or clearer spots made by other vehicles, but that rear tire would be making a path all on its own through the deepest sloppiest part of the road. I can't see it getting any traction in that and would think it would handle like a rear tire in a constant hydroplane."

That was exactly my experience and I was very grateful not to have had an accident on the highway competing with the other cars and trucks. Just my humble take on it my friend :-) Blessings and safe riding!

I noticed that what was not addressed in this thread is that the spyder is not intended as a winter machine, I would me more concerned about the affects on the parts such as bearings and such due to salt and snow. If my memory serves me right, Dave (And Teddy)from Cincinnati rode in the winter and there was defenitely damage to things when he stripped his bike down for repairs. This would be more my concern, as will living in the Laurentians of Quebec I have tried the Spyder ( with stock tires) in the snow, and it was pretty useless. I know this thread was about tires, but thought this would be worth mentioning. That being said, would loved to hear your experience! JMHO.

I think post #9 has you covered.

Yes I read that, but was thinking more on mechanical parts rusting rather then system not acting as they should in winter conditions. But yes the point is these are summer machines.;)

Don't tell my wife that. We will be riding all winter. Proper maintenance will insure the bike is fine. I have been doing it on other motorcycles for 30 years.

I myself have rode my bikes in some wintery conditions, but this one is a little bit too expensive and I am getting wiser in my old age!:joke:And I do a lot of my own maintenance. That being said, if it works for you all the power!:thumbup:
