• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. SPYDER IN THE SHOP !

Top End Unlimited

New member
I just wanted to say "thanks" to everyone who answered my last post on my leak. Turns out, the leak was coming from the water pump oil seal. Now it will be in the shop until the 20th of Aug. to get all that is needed done. I have no problem with that. The tech said this happens quite often on the 2012 RT as I've learned on here.

So I guess what this post is, is one big thank you, from a newer Spyder Rider ! You people on here rock. So the next thing will be to get the new exhaust and a few other items. Chuck :bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

Actually we owe a thanks to you for following up and getting back with us to let us know what the problem was. Not a whole lot on here do that. It helps us as well as you.

Thanks to you.

Chris

What damage can occur if you keep running it that way and just add oil as needed?
None. There is no oil pressure in that area. The weeping is oil splashing around in the case. I had the same thing happen to mine the first year except my water pump shaft leaked on the antifreeze/waterpump side Noticed it in July and had it fixed under warranty over the winter. Just added when needed until I had some down time.

:agree: Mine leaked oil and I kept driving it until it was more convenient for me and the dealer to get it fixed. Treated it like an old Harley and put a piece of cardboard underneath.

Thank you for the update on your problem. Choices to drive or not to drive. Do what you feel comfortable with. Always a bummer when they have the :spyder2: in the shop for extended periods. We all know they are not working on it constantly during the 8 days mentioned.

Thanks..!!

letting us know helps us keep helping our members and visitors with problems. Glad they are getting you fixed up...:2thumbs:

Yes, I do need to ride and I hate that its only 6 miles away and I can't. Waiting for the parts to arrive sucks, but as I stated before, I HATE LEAKS ! Going to the Dragon later this month and don't want any problem then. Thanks for your input. Chuck

Oil leak...

My 2012 RT is in for the same thing. What really sucks is it takes 7-10 days to get the parts out of Canada. OH and had a brake failure at the same time. Had a bad sensor. Hope it all gets done soon.
Pat.

AAAND when later this month are you going to the Dragon? Would yould you happen to be in that area from 8/20 to 8/24?

OH! And I hope your oil leak is fixed by then.

Just read your post again and I see it will be in the shop till the 20th. So we may not cross paths. I will be leaving for home on the 24th.

2013 RT-S Semi Auto. 19,000 miles. Had the same issue. Just a wee (small) amount of oil on garage floor. I'd say the oil was underneath the gas tank or there abouts. Took spyder in and had to replace water pump and oil seal. Other things replaced too. This was the longest that my spyder had ever been in the shop. It was approximately ten days because parts had to be shipped from Canada like someone else mentioned in their response. All work done under warranty. Took it out for a work out. Oil has not presented itself so far.
