• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder goes Boom.

So...

I did the Ride of Reflection today with the Warriors' Watch and a small group of us got separated from the pack after we stopped to help someone. I was pulling out from a stop light as we were leaving and the Spyder started shifting funny, like it didn’t want to go into gear. (2010-SE5). I slowed it down, got it sorted out and kept going. Everything was fine. Got to the Garden, took the turnpike home and parked it.

A couple hours pass and since the clouds had moved out I decided to take a ride through Valley Forge. As soon as I clear the on ramp and up shift I hear a loud bang, try to up shift as I merge and get nothing. Pull over to the side and shut it down. Let it sit a few minutes and try again. No first gear or reverse.

Long story short, the Spyder was flat bedded to a dealer (Thanks Spin Cycle Towing!). I have less than 12,000mi on it. Someone please tell me that this will be fixed under warranty.

You have 2 years factory warranty from when you took delivery. Unless it's an operator-caused problem, I don't see why you won't be covered....

Thanks Firefly, that is what I though. It's not like I have a clutch handle and could beat up the trans. The computer only lets me shift when it says yes. If I am going five miles an hour in a parking lot I can press the + all day long and it ignores it.

Thanks guys, I will let you know. I just hope they can get it fixed by next weekend. I have a Second Brigade MC ride and a Friends Of The Forgotten ride on Saturday and Sunday. I don't want to miss them.

There have been a few shift levers that came loose from the shaft. If that's the case it's an easy fix.

Chris,

That sux. I was looking for you at zero-dark-thirty on Sunday morning for the Garden of Reflection Flagline, but Underbird told me about your trans.

PM me if you need anything. nojoke

Maybe, but I'd be worried about the loud bang.

Worry is interest paid on a problem before it comes due.

Components under stress (like a shift lever and the gear(s) it is manipulating) can make a loud noise when they are released before full engagement. Have you ever had a standard transmission slip out of gear? It makes a loud bang but typically, no collateral damage occurs.

Right now let's hope for the best and save the worry for a real problem, if it exists. :doorag:

I forgot that the dealer is closed on Monday as well. They won't know why there is a covered Spyder in thier parking lot, hiding behind the dumpster, until they check thier voicemail tomorrow. I will of course call them as soon as they open. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Dropped the key off yesterday and didn't hear from them today. I guess they are replacing the leaky instrument cluster as scheduled. If I do not get a call by the end of the day tomorrow I will rattle the chain. I just hope I have it for the weekend. I’ll keep you posted.

The cluster was replaced today and they are looking at the trans. They said there might be a problem with relays. That didn't make much sense to me. I didn't get a call back tonight so I will rattle the chain again tomorrow.

Here is the sad update. In the words of the dealer, "Somehow the clutch basket flew off". That sounds bad to me. He said it looks like another week before it will all be fixed because they have to rip the trans all the way apart and see what other parts they need to order. Does any dealer stock parts for these things?

Middle of September, weather is great, and my Spyder is in the shop. I am depressed. Maybe I will rent a Harley.

They will open the entire engine, not only the transmission, looking for this:

I can see that maybe the nut holding the basket might have backed off but there's no way it can "fly off". I wouldn't get too excited till they get the case off and see what's going on. It took me about three days for parts for my basket. Hang in there.

I'm hanging but I am about ready to put a little 250 ninja on my credit card so I can feel some wind. This is killing me.
