• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Spyder Cruise Control

Lamonster, do you know anything about these guys? They say they have a cruise control for the Spyder. Much more expensive than the Audio Vox, but maybe it's worth it. www.mccruise.com/

If you're looking for an electronic cruise control that won't break the bank you might give these guys a look.

Same folks that make the Audiovox vacuum unit. Cost is around $200 for the cruise and control panel, but that beats the heck outta $700+.

Known to work on a 650 V-Strom, so the Spyder shouldn't be a problem. It's the one I plan to use when the time comes.

Problem with car cruise control systems are the buttons are not made for the elements. Also there is alot of fabrications for the proper brackets for the servo, etc. It seems that the austrailian company is the only ones that make any type of after market electronic cruise control for bikes. I was looking into it myself as I rather have an aftermarket part be used for what it was intended instead of getting unleliable results from other means. As Lamonster stated that his Audiovox has failed and when I asked him about it; he said he was looking for other solutions also.

Electronic cruise control

Has anyone tried a Harley Davidson cruise on a Spyder? They are made for motorcycles, and are about $260.

cruise control

I bought the MC cruise control and installed it before the Gatlinburg get together. Even thought it is not cheap I have been real pleased with it. The installation was very easy. If you can read you can install this cruise control. I have had no problems at all and I ride in all kinds of weather.
I have made several mods to my sypder and this is the best mod so far for me.My ride to work is about 45 miles each way and on a 2 lane straight road. I just set the speed and relax.

post

I did not take any while doing the install but will take the covers off later today or tomorrow and try to post some pictures for everyone. The instructions that come with the kit have real good pictures and also include extensive trouble shooting instructions when needed. I have not had a need for the trouble shooting instructions.
The buttoms for setting the cruise mount under the controls for the left handle bar. The electronics are mounted under the cowling that the windshield is mounted too.

I thought BRP was going to introduce this option, along with the possibility of an add on Hand Brake in 2009, was I wrong?
Can anyone with an insider scoop find out?
Thanks

Unless something's changed at BRP, they have been against a hand brake add-on from the get go.

I've heard good things about the MC CC but my thumblock works fine for me till I find a cheaper solution. I'm not needing a CC that bad. :yikes:

Cruise Control

I've also installed the cruise control from Australia and it is so far the best investment on my Spyder. I commute on average about 300 miles a week on freeways and this allows me to switch hands or not constantly hold the throttle. It also has improved my gas mileage by 2 to 3 miles per gallon. This unit is pricey but well worth it if you do long tours. I talked to the Western BRP Representative at the demo rides offered by BRP on the Spyders at my dealer in Livermore CA. I asked him about BRP offering the following on future Spyders:
Cruise Control - He said BRP was concerned about libility!!! I noted that if BMW wasn't shy about offering it on my R1200RT how could BRP be concerned.
Taller Electrically Adjustable windshield - Again like my RT which I use frequently. Again he stated that they had plans for a taller windshield but not adjustible.
Six Speed Trans with out reverse - Reverse was a must have he stated and the Rotax motor was a high RPM motor (which I agree).

The bottom line in my opinion is that BRP thinks of the Spyder as a sport vehicle and not so much to be used for long tours. I love my Spyder and wouldn't consider selling it. I do think though BRP is limiting their market taking this stance.
